Has anyone owned or used the Tred Barta longbow? 3Rivers has them for $429. Are they made by Martin? Opinions please.

Yep, made by Martin. Looks like it was made on the old Bushmaster form to me.

If so, it's a very good bow.

These are reviews from people that have used the Tred Barta Longbow. Hope this helps.

It is quite possibly a good bow, I've never shot one. Ifis is made by Martin I'm sure it is.

I just wouldn't buy anything with his name on it.

But then maybe I should have listened to my mother. "If you can't say anything nice...)

Some of those reviews could make your head spin. A 5 star and a con of "difficult to use", whatever does that mean? Well he's from Alaska so I'll wait till summer and his brain thaws out. Another mentioned a con of "innaccurate" then got into the string and shelf and side plate wearing out but rated it three stars? Sounds more like he had spine and nock set issues. Forget the reviews, you just have to try a bow for yourself to know if it is for you. Support your local traditional archery shop or any that carries stickbows.

At $429 I would even think about it...For that price you have lots of options....Kota, Liberty or the Martin savannah to name just a few. If you want a good bow for a good price check out the Bear Montana!

I agree to check out other bows at that price range. I haven't shot the bow, but I am not crazy about the looks. Looks kinda blocky too me, and I think the tips look huge. I've been wrong before, however, and it just may be the deal of the century...Mike

If anyone is interested in Tred Barta's real longbow, here it is. I've got it listed on the Hill website... It's the custom Limited Edition Hill Rogue that he had made for himself and so marked... ivory tips, elephant hide grip and all. I got it awhile back and it was beat to h---. I sent it to Craig and had it completey restored, but since my shoulder quite on me, i can't pull it.

Shot a 70# Barta bow the other day and wasn't too impressed with it. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't anything amazing.

When I went to 3R to get outfitted for my first trad bow, I spent about an hour shooting the Barta alongside the Bear Montana. Given, this was the first time I'd shot a trad bow since high school (my 20th reunion is coming up this summer, so it was a while ago), but after an hour shooting both I really couldn't see any significant difference.

Do any of you read anything here, that would lead you to believe, that this man asked for an oppinion on the man himself?Try to stick to the subject at hand, which is about the bow and who makes the bow.If you wanna give your OPPINION,on Tred, then do it on the Latest tred bashin thread,so the rest of us can be spared,PLEASE.

I shot one and though it was not too bad for the money. As already mentioned, it is made by Martin Archery who makes a great product. The one I shot was well built and had a nice finish. It has more R/D than something like the Bear Montana, which I though made it a little faster and gave it a little less 'bump' on the release. Overall I have nothing bad to say about the bow, it is well made, shoots good and is priced right. For a hunting bow you could do alot worse. 3R usually has them in stock so you may not to wait too long. I think regardless of how you feel about Tred, it's a pretty good bow.

Member of my club brought one to the range and I had the opportunity to shoot it. Thought it was ugly but when I shot it I was surprised at how smooth and well it shot.
