I thought the same thing Harley while some were partying and other sleeping these guys were up making arrows all morning. Hard to imagine.Even for a proffesional they must rest some time. Kidding here also no matter what year they are from they are as beautiful today as they were when they were done.
These splices and the finish is just awsome. I wounder just how many splices it took each guy to do before they got this good at it let alone the crests and finish work that they became pro at it.

Antler burn? Burn? I never thought of that.
If I wanted to rig a branding iron with my own symbol, does anyone have a suggestion as to how?
Can you shape a piece from a tin can or similar, heat it, and burn with it?
I am fascinated. Thanks.

Thanks Harley Writer. Thin Man, I bought the wood arrow stencils from either Kustom King or 3Rivers several years ago, but was unable to find them on-line tonight. I'm sure they're still available from someone. They are an aluminum stencil that has different patterns cut-out and basically you just use a torch to burn the pattern into a wood arrow. Great Arrows guys! Dan

I can't believe we are 12 days into the year and I have finished any arrows yet! I have three sets "in work" for others and will post them soon. I made a few cheapies for myself along the way....poplar two fletch again. This time I needed some light spined target arrows so I figured I would try some colorful ones.

Finished up some arrows today for a young girl at church who is starting out on a recurve. These are 1/4" poplar which spined at 18#. They almost look full sixe but those shafts really feel miniture! Those tiny little cresting line darn near put my old eyes inthe grave!

Hello LD, Those 1/4" shafts started out life as hand selected 1/4" dowels from Menards! Some of the commercial shaft suppliers do sell 1/4" shafts but they are usually called "Kids Shafts" and do not come in specifc spines. From what I have found here locally, 1/4" poplar ends up with a static spine inthe range of 14 ~ 20#. In my case the ones I built were all 18# static and had a GPI range of 6.8 to 7.1 The finished arrow weight averaged 259 grains.
My experience with 5/16" poplar is that they are very tough and durable. I hope the 1/4" will prove to be relatively the same. In any case, I test shot them this evening and they flew very well.

Ok, these are the last arrows from Stu for quite a while! Unfortunately I am in the middle of selling my house to move to North Carolina. It will be many months before I can get into a house there and get all the arrow tools unpacked and up an running. Plenty of great talent here to keep me inspired until I can build again.....keep the great looking arrows coming!

I don't have the patients for that quality of work any more. I will endeavour to post some pictures in the future though.Played those games years ago when I had good eye sight and no arthritis .I can still make footed arrows but I no longer make 4 wing foots. Just 2 wing cause they are quick and simple. At one stage in my life I learned to make 4 wing spiral. These are tricky to make as they would either break twisting the spirals or end up being bent and distorted some what.I would like to know how the arrow builders did it in the 50s and 60 s.The way I do it is on a par with steam bending.longer wings and 45 degree twist maxuim eventually got results. The builders back in the day had a jig for keeping shafts straight during the twisting process.lots of mine got severely warped.awesome work there though(eye candy) Thanks for showing it

This is some beautiful art/craftsmanship. These arrows are too pretty to shoot. I know that's what they're for but I'd be P/O'd to shoot one and miss my mark (happens to me more often than I'd like to admit). The crafstmen on leatherwall have definitely set a high bar for others.

gbow123, you have entirely too much time on your hands. Those look great. I've put together 10 dozen this year and sold a few. I'm really not in the arrow business anymore; I just enjoy making them so much, i can't stop. Been messin around with display arrows for home and lodge, for those who want decor. Not much success, but fun to make.
