It has been reported that Howard Hill moved to the Miami, Florida area to work for Hughes Tool Company in 1925. I'm not "convinced" this is true. Now, that doesn't mean it isn't true, only that I have not found anything to substantiate it. I have however, located "published" information from his sister, his nephew and Howard's own writings that "suggest" this may not be the case.

I've not been able to "validate" the presence of Hughes Tool Company in the Miami area from 1924-1927. I know there are plenty folks more skilled than I in locating information via the internet, etc., so I'm asking if some of you "super sleuths" might could aid me in determining if Hughes Tool Company had some business in Miami during this time period.

There is plenty evidence to place Hill in the Miami area from 1925-1932.

I can find no concrete dealings of the hughes tool company in miami. But howard hughes jr. did leave part of his will to the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in 1925 which set up its HQ in Miami. He also won his first air trophy in 1934 in Miami. So hughes was in miami from time to time. Nothing concrete but it shows that there was some dealings in miami however small. Hope this helps.

Check out the Glenn H. Curtiss museum in Hammondsport, N.Y. @ 607-569-2160. The Curtiss family had a lot of business dealings in Florida at that time and may have had some with the Hughes'. Howard Hill worked for and hunted with the Curtiss family during those years.

Not much stuff as you guys have found out. Hughes Tool originated in the Texas oil industry and in 1925 didn't have much reason to have some sort of business location in Miami.

My thoughts are (until some better evidence surfaces) that someone confused Hughes tool with Curtiss' business and the error has been reported over and over again since. I've found evidence to support Hill working for Curtiss prior to Hill's "official" employment in January, 1927 at Opalocka as archery/archery golf pro but nothing to support the Hughes Tool gig.

Thanks for taking the time to check things out.
