From: Hatchet-Jack

I do find it very interesting archery goes back so many years! I can understand why a self bow bowyer gets addicted to finding the bow that the tree has hidden for him, its a religous connection to nature, a man made object derived from a Godly creation! That pretty much sums up all man made objects!

From: Eric Krewson

When I see new tattoos I always wonder if the wearer will think they are still "special" years down the road. They look grotesque to me, a sign of poor judgment but I am an old guy and not tuned in to the latest "in" thing.

From: yukon chuck
Date: 04-Feb-11

What is really interesting is that a "brother of the bow", someone who shares our love of the stick and string, posts something here that is special to him, that he wants to share, and rather than a compliment, or simply saying nothing at all, people feel the need to steal a bit of his joy.

I don't have any tattoos brother, but I like yours! Straight shooting. Yukon

I have several tattoos. One is a full back piece.I waited until I was sure that I wanted one and didn't do it until I was 41.Funny thing is you can't see mine when I wear jeans and a short sleeved shirt.People think I'm an ok guy until warmer weather when they can see my tats.People are weird sometimes. To be fair not all people care but some do get on their high horse about it.Just makes me feel sorry for them.

Re-read the tatoo the Martin it was Gen 21.

Ishmael was blessed by God too. Not his fault Sarah and Abraham couldn't wait and came up with plan B on their own.

Cool Tattoo and well said Yukon Chuck.

First off....great Tattoo's guys!

I don't think it's anyones job here to judge people as to why or why they don't get tattoos! As for me....I'd love to have more tattoos, just don't have the funds. Never been a fan of caring what other people think anyways. I also think the world would be much more boring if everyone was the same.....or for that fact, all shot the same bows!

Keep being who you are guys!

Tattoos are a personal matter. I have 3 US Marine Corps Tattoos, I am extremely proud of my service and at 18-20 years old thought that I would express my pride. I must admit that what seems cool at 20 isn't always still cool at 42. I also have a "Bowhunter" Tatt and that one represents my love of Archery, nature, animals and the pursuit. These Tattoos are now 22 years later a big part of who I am in the sense that many people did not know me when I didn't have Tattoos, and they don't even seem to notice them anymore. It's a personal way of expression. As far as being "The latest in thing" Tatts have been around almost as long as mankind. Love your Tattoo and appreciate the amount of pride in your outdoor lifestyle that encouraged you to express it.

From: tracy warren
Date: 04-Feb-11

alphamale good luck with your tatoo dude.

I've seen others refer to that same scripture and I know it's not Ishmael's fault, but he was not to be an heir with the son of promise, Isaac, and there was a prophecy about him in Gen 16:11-12; that "he will be a wild ass of a man and his hand against every man and every man's hand against him".

I just think there are better options.

I meant no disrespect to you though. Peace to you.

From: Martin Gracem
Date: 04-Feb-11

No, that would be Chapter 21:20 NOT 21:20-21

From: Martin Gracem
Date: 04-Feb-11

Every use of bible notation I'm familiar with a "-" dash means "THROUGH". So 21:20-21 means verse 20 AND 21.

My favorite Tattoo. Escondido Tattoo in Escondido California in 1988. The big tribal above is a cover Tattoo, word of advise......keep Women's names off your skin. Tatts are permanent, females usually aren't.

From: Chaser
Date: 04-Feb-11

It's funny to me that people on here always feel the need to "give advice" no matter what...I read the original post over and over and I don't see anywhere it is asking for advice on his choice to get a tatoo.

From: Panther Bone
Date: 04-Feb-11

It's a juvenile thing to speak ill of another man's extremely personal decision to get "inked". I never dreamed of getting one myself, until my maternal grandmother died. Besides my wife, no other person ever had such a profound influence on my life. She was a saint. At her burial ceremony we released doves, so I had a dove placed over my chest. For me, it's as though one of those doves came back to keep me in her company till I see her again. Point being: Perspective can be crucial.

Second, yes they are there all your life - but, if at the end of days when I receive my glorified body; the Lord can remove it if deemed necessary.

Third, while Lev. 19:28 is the only direct prohibition against tats, the Hebrew term trans. for tattoo is really unknown. Based on it's juxtaposition with the more clear term for "carving into the skin", we at least know it refers to a pagan act of worship/religious attachment. That's why the Israelites didn't do it - cause tats weren't casual things; they were very religious (unlike today!).

Fourth, take it easy on others when you don't know what your talking about.

Grace and peace, pb

i dont under stand why somone would post someting negative about this guy showing off his tatoo! they man is proud of it! no it might not be to your taste or you might think its pour judgement... but who made you the judge! no one cares to hear your negative comments! and i bet there are some things you do that he would think is poor judgement.

Alpamale: congrats on your new bow and thanks for sharing your tat. I am one of the few in my family without, but it is not my place to judge. The real purpose and beauty of your post is that you have fellow leatherwallers discussing the WORD. Fellowship can be found in many different ways. Good job and God Bless, Jr.

From: Lee@Protege Longbows
Date: 04-Feb-11

God gives us freewill. We have the right to inform others of his word, but we do not have the right to judge them for their actions...nor do we have the right to suppress their decisions. I believe if we do as God did, we do the best we can to live within his will, we teach others (spread the word), but we don't try to control others. Live and let live.

Freedom is a God given right.

From: fuzzy

personally I like that tatt, (I have an archery tatt and one expressing my faith but they are separate, not combined, great idea.)

and ANY display which might prompt someone to pick up The Word and READ and THINK is a positive In My Opinion

Also one of the most powerful thing about The Word is that people can read the same passage and derive different valuable and powerful meanings and lessons within the context of their livesand personal and spiritual needs.

For example

If I saw a woman (or man) with a tattoo reading "John 7:53-8:11" I would not automatically presume that he/she was condoning or promoting adultery.

I would be more inclined to believe that he/she found the message of forgiveness, and understanding, and God's perfect love of importance in that particular story.

On our "sinful nature."

I once dated a girl that had a tattoo of a unicorn on her leg. Now...the below quotes I am sure are not exactly word for word, as that conversation was over 10 years ago, but I remember the just of it.

I never said anything about it to her but one day she stated, "You have never said anything about my tattoo, why is that?"

My response was, "Well, since you asked I will say what I think. I haven't said anything about it because I think it is a bad idea to cover such a beautiful and sexy leg with a picture of an animal that I could see in a fantasy book. Being a man, I am attracted to a woman's body, not a beast."

My point is, for those that want to bash others with tattoos...Let's remember wee all have a sinful nature. I certainly do. LOL...and the attraction of a beautiful lady is my weakness (although I do remain faithful to my wife, I do have to be careful to prevent my wondering eyes). God forgive me.

Sorry if my post offended anyone. It is just a thought I had as I read this post.

In the end, let's not judge one another, but instead remember the greater commandment to "love one another."

Date: 04-Feb-11

Oh...I had a friend that almost died after getting a tattoo. It was his 7th or 8th one and he never had a problem with any of the ones prior to it. I think his situation was from an allergy that he developed...but I am not sure. His tattoo was on his chest, but he got blisters over his entire body...including his face and had to be hospitalized for some time. While he did eventually recover, he does still occasionally have small outbreaks when he gets weak. It looks like herpies or something, but it isn't. It was something to do with his tattoo. I mention this because there are risks to tattoos.

Be careful where you get them, what type of ink is used, and be aware of the risks if you decide to get one.

From: stickandstring
Date: 04-Feb-11

Great looking "Tat" AlphaMale wish I had thought of it looking for a good one. I just don't understand why people have to be so negative about a persons choices about ink on there bodies. Most of us who have them have given considerable thought on what to get where to put it and will we like it when we are old and grey that is what makes us all individuals. So ink on brother and "GOD BLESS"!

A feel good thread for sure.

Alphamale...way cool!

Thanks for sharing. My wife is a tattoo artist, and a native American. She says there is honor in your story carried on your skin...it helps you walk on when you die. A life well lived is a tale to be proud of. A tale to be told.

Wear it with pride.

I have one tattoo. A four leaf clover, with the number six within it. I am the sixth child of seven, and my mother could find a four leaf clover in a desert of dry sand. There will be more...for me they are free. :)

Ha Alpha there are those who think they have to correct the rest of us. We need to pray for them because it is a terrible burden to know everything and what God thinks about everything. Can you imagine just looking at our world and knowing what is right is every situation. It is enough to drive them crazy and may have.

The also let everyone know what gang you belong to or where you are from. Tatoos are a work of art, some are beautys and I have seen some that werent so nice. I, along with many if not most others, am enjoying this thread immensely. While I don't have any tattoos or piercings of my own, I neither condemn nor criticize those who do. Hell, over a decade ago, I dated a pagan lady who had so much ink on her that you literally could not tell what color her skin was under all the tattoos. I agree with what many posters have said concerning how this thread has caused a number of people to look into God's Word and the subsequent discussion. Seems like God can use ANY medium to draw our attention back to Him...including the ink on alphamale's arm. After reading some of the posts here, I decided to do my own little research project. Using an online concordance, I tried to see how many times the word "archer" could be found in the Bible. After having found a few places where that word was found, I found a verse which I liked:

Proverbs 26:10: "Like an archer who wounds at random is he who hires a fool or any passer-by"

Now the "archer wounding at random" version is found in a number of translations of the Bible, including the New International Version, the New Living Translation, the English Standard Translation, and the New American Standard Version, among others.

But in OTHER versions of the Bible, including the classical, beloved, and most widely used King James Version from 1611, the American King James Version, the Webster's Bible Translation, and Young's Literal Translation, this verse is found:

Proverbs 26:10: "The great [God] that formed all [things] both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors"

Curious...

tattoos are indeed a very personal thing. and yup im sure some live to regret em. i have numerous and each one i designed cept one-which was designed by a dear old friend who died a few years ago-he had it on his neck-i put the same one on my arm- i will never live to regret that one. each one i thought long and hard about as its for life. some are more than 20 yrs old and i still love em! tats are sorta like bows. really hard to have just one...

congrats on yr new tat dude!

I love the way some on this thread will judge others and claim to be "good Christians". They are berating another human being because their imaginary friend told them that what this person has done is wrong. Love it when the Holy Rollers fight. This is an Archery/Bowhunting site not your pulpit at church. If the mods want to keep threads about archery topics, why are the religious rants and discussions always allowed??????????

That was a good story Alpha, i really enjoyed it.

Umm...warchild...unless I am mistaken, this thread revolves around ARCHERY found in the Bible. Now while some posts, including my own, have incorporated Scripture in them, this has not necessarily proven to be a "religious" thread, although many, including myself, have professed their faith, yet it has remained archery related

The reason the mods like to keep the ranting and raving threads going is it brings more people comeing over to view the fighting on the leather wall.

Did you ever notice these kind of threads have looooong post, a lot longer then most threads.

It's a lot like TV and the news, they THINK gloom and doom is what people want to see/read about.

If you ignore the ones who always want to fight and have nothing but negitive things to say about everything and everyone, maybe they will just go away.

Really if you don't like tattoos there's no need to comment. You "holier than thou" people amaze me. It's body art and a fine piece of work at that. Congrats on your new ink. Every time I get one it makes me want more. It's addictive....

I think warchild's pic would make a good archery tat...although I'd feel kinda sorry for the artist, if he didn't have a good, steady hand. Also for the person getting the tattoo, as he/she would have to sit there for HOURS!

Someone called for a Pastor, well, here it is, don't worry about your tatoos being sin and such, it doesn't matter, the only sin anyone has to worry about right now is the only sin that will send a person to hell, and that sin is not believing in The Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour. That's just what the Bible says. Take care now.

I don't believe anyone on here is "judging". I do not care what others put on or in their skin. As for Rev. 19: 16, be careful how you interpret this. The words "KING OF KINGS LORD OF LORDS" is on his "vesture" (robe) not his skin. I believe the Bible speaks out against marking the skin because in the end days, in order to give money or receive money(basically survive), a tatoo or permanent marking will be required upon the forehand or the forehead (hence "mark of the devil"). For those who already have a tatoo this is just another one, no big deal. This mark will condemn those who receive it.

You're right, this is an archery topic. There are people (including myself) who believe a tatoo of a Biblical scripture on someones body is an "oxymoron". One thing is for sure...in the end all truth will be revieled. That is one thing that makes this country so great, choice. My sincere thanks to you Warchild and all those who have served. Ok...fire away.

Alphamale...I think your tat is awesome. Realizing the demographics of this board goes a long way. Most are older guys who have become armchair hunters..let them look down their nose at you, brother...at least we are out there actually hunting

"Fat and pale?" .....that's not fat and pale.....come to Canada and live at -40 for a few months, then you'll see fat and pale!

As far as the Tats...I think they are awesome! A person strong enough in sense of self and spirituality should be commended! Individuality is something we as humans have been blessed with, rather than being a bunch of gingerbread men all from the same cutter. Keep givin'er!

My father has two tatoos. One on his forearm, a rose with an inscription that I don't even remember what it said. The other was a full length naked women from his shoulder down to mid-arm. He is eighty four years old.

My oldest son has two on the inside of each upper arm. One is a full length giraffe, and to be honest I don't remember what the other shows. So much for the old guys - young guys.

I am fifty five and my skin is the same as the day I was born. I have thought about getting one a time or two, but never went through with it. The reason is I can't predict how the work will turn out or what I will think of it after it is done. I have seen some that have a very clear image depicted with a good theme. I have seen others that look shabby.

I'm a big fan of tramp stamps. I'm always looking for them on the pretty college girls around here and I try to study them best I can. Of course, with my old eyes I need to adjust my head just right to see them with my trifocals and sometimes I get caught. But I just grin, tap the side of my head and say "mad cow."

Anytime a man thinks of the Bible and records it, even if it is on your arm I think it's great. The verse does deal with Ishmael but it still says; "And God was with the boy". God's grace extends to us all. I like that new bow! Shoot well and become "a skillful archer". The text says that too. It may not be a good idea to "marry a wife from Egypt" at least right now :). I thought about posting my ink when this post first came out, but I decided not to. Because I just knew that some opinionated A--hole would take the opportunity to step on their cyber soapbox and speak. I can almost guarantee you that the same opinionated A--hole wouldn't say anything if he saw you in person. Wear your ink proudly my friends.
