There is a Wing, Dan Fitzgerald takedown bow listed. I Haven't heard of him before. I know there was a Len Cardinale takedown hunter by Wing in its last incarnation (world Archery). Anyone know who he is? Was this bow made overseas ?

From: crittergitter
Date: 14-Sep-10

I remember him having a hunting show. If I remember right, he got busted hunting somewhere he wasn't supposed to, but not sure.

From: soldier
Date: 14-Sep-10

Yep he got in trouble for hunting something. He use to hunt with Bob Fulkrod and make some videos. He shot a compound bow instinctively, had a bushy beard and wore a red plaid shirt. I still got a VHS tape of him.

From: PaPa Doc
Date: 14-Sep-10

Watch "Down for the Count" then you will no!

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

It is made overseas, as was all the Wing bows after it was sold to World Archery.

From: Uncle Lijiah
Date: 14-Sep-10

Dan Fitzgerald's videos look like fair chase bowhunts to me and they aren't trophy-oriented. They're very entertaining to watch compared to most. I like his "Totally Instinctive" shooting/bowhunting video. Dan Fitzgerald did make a bowhunting video with Noel Feather. I believe that was before Feather started making his own videos using some "short cuts", so I don't think there is any guilt by association.

From: Brigham54
Date: 14-Sep-10

I think I watched a video of him and his son Guy Fitzgerald pig hunting.

From: logsquatter
Date: 14-Sep-10

He was one of my favorites. Nothing like the shows on TV now. I saw him take two deer ground hunting. Once jump shooting a doe and another he had to run to cover a lot of ground to intercept a buck. He used a string tracker on the buck and that was interesting. My son went to see him talk and was disappointed because he talked too much about his faith in Jesus Christ. He is not in the Bowhunter Hall of Shame. That would be Noel Feather.

From: Zipperin'
Date: 14-Sep-10

The pig videos are stunning......

From: Jeff McCormick

So far as I know he was in any trouble.I am not big into any hunting shows or celebreties but I think he hunts properties like most of us do and not high dollar super managed farms. Also he shoots compounds instinctive with fingers.I don't know anything about the Wing bows though.

From: Longbow Honkey Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 14-Sep-10

Yeah, he has a show with his son on the outdoor channel. They market their own line of scents that are sold through major retailers and are sponsored pretty big by mathews. He made videos with Noel Feather in the 80's. Their show is pretty cool because it's not trophy oriented and these guys are down to earth and pretty normal. You don't see them pushing the latest gadget or modeling matching camo. They're just hunters. In fact, these guys are the closest i've seen to being "traditional" even though they shoot compounds. By that I mean they don't need the "latest" "must have" product to go out and shoot a deer. They just hunt and appear to have alot of fun, kinda what I think is the reason we do it in the first place.

From: dirt sampler
Date: 14-Sep-10

Dan was the best in the early days of the whole video thing.I've got one of his videos where he kills deer with a compound, long bow and recurve.I'd like to see those Drury shmucks or Lee and Tiffany do that.Bet they couldnt not even on their {QDM] deer farms.LOL

From: Dogsoldier
Date: 14-Sep-10

I liked his show and he is noit a trophy guy.I have 1 video of him and he shot a turkey and it showed in slow motion the arrow cutting half the beard off.

From: Hill Hunter
Date: 14-Sep-10

The amazing thing about Dan is he shoots instinctive and only has one eye ( no depth perception should not be possible) I have watched him shoot a variety of bow types from a variety of position and distances and all the arrows hit vitals. it is worth the effort to dig up some video of him to watch. 'their going down" is one I can think of,.

From: 4nolz
Date: 14-Sep-10

didnt they make the famous "Raging Boars" video-awesome is the word for that one.

From: Uncle Lijiah

"Raging Boars" was another guy - Shawn (or Sean) is his first name and I forget his last name. :o) Clint

I've always enjoyed Dan's videos. Just a regular guy hunting regular areas like most of us. But, I think Alan Altizer videos were the best.(nut)

From: Foamkiller
Date: 14-Sep-10

Dan Fitzgerald regardless of who he made videos with(Foulkrod, Feather & Bob McGuire) were the standards for the late 80's and 90's. When he switched to PSE his videos became just one long infomercials. His current TV show is much the same only with Mathews as his bow of choice. His son Guy has gone from a funny young kid to the biggest tool on TV in 20 short years.

From: Pop Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 14-Sep-10

I have talked to Dan Fitzgerald personally and belive he a stand up guy, His son(Guy) seems ok also. He has made a lot of video. Just plan hunting no thrills. Grill backstraps on his tree stand. Wing bows are made in Korea. Are they not?

From: bowwild
Date: 14-Sep-10

A fellow who seems to take a shot at his TV competitors every chance he gets. I won't watch his show more than a couple minutes at a time, usually all it takes to hear him pump himself up by putting others down.

From: Dogsoldier

"Grill backstraps on his tree stand"....lol...They cooked chicken that way on my video.

Grew up watching him. He's never been in trouble! Noel Feather, however, has. Dan is one of the best instinctive shots I have ever seen. His videos(in the early days) were also the best. He's became comercialized now, and his son (don't care much for him) seems to be taking over.

From: Master Angler
Date: 14-Sep-10

He's related to Uncle Bunny on dad's side...

From: johnbuck9
Date: 14-Sep-10

Dan is one great shot ,recurve, longbow or compound, he shot a mouse not a rat in the barn placing some bait on the foor and he went up in the hey loft, the mouse came out for some goodies and Dan drilled him too the floor, Dan also shot heavy poundage bows, and never with sights, and yes he is a taxidermist, once we went too a dealer show and Dan was staying in the same motel not too many years ago, and some jerk broke into his truck, and stole all his high dollar video eguipment, Dan was and is a hunter not a glory hound into horn porn.Good guy in my book.

From: Forest Archer

I love his earlier hunting tapes!! You can watch some of his old stuff in short segments on Youtube.

I've always liked Dan's keepin it real style.

From: Big Mo

Cool vid CM! But what are them wheelie bobbers on his bow? JK Check out the Self camo pants and the red and black lumberjack! Sweeet! Big Mo.

From: Longbow Honkey Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 15-Sep-10

Thanks CM. I miss the old days. Notice how Dan refers to that awesome buck as being well over 200? That's when well over 200 meant pounds and not inches! How refreshing. I love to see a good buck and to get a shot at one is a life changing experience. But, I hate this new hunting subculture that stresses the need for hunters to "farm" or "raise" giant deer. I loved the late 80's and 90's when a food plot was a corn field and a 2.5 year old buck was considered a nice buck.

"Ferocious Tuskers" was one of the pig videos. Still one of my favorites. The videos with Foulkrod are some of the best ever.

I liked watching the shows they make - used some of their "Deer Dander" product before as well, good stuff

From: sir misalots
Date: 15-Sep-10

Wow when I read this I knew I was old. Yes like others I cut my BH teeth watching his VHS tapes. Dan was a blue collar no nonsense bowhunter. Unfortunatley he fell into the same shameless product placing infomercial that most shows are now. Too bad, he had some of the best shows ever.

From: bowjack
Date: 15-Sep-10

Must just be me. The videos I had seen of his I thought were done in poor taste. I admit I haven't watched many as the early ones were enough for me. But then again, I don't really care for many of the new hunting shows either and seldom if ever watch them. Just not my cup of tea.

From: soldier
Date: 15-Sep-10

I like his Just Passing Through video where he set up a camera on both sides of a trail so he could get the exit shot. Watched him cook on that old treestand on several shows. Sooner or later they all end up promting a few more products than most of us would like to see, just ecomonics and feeding the family.

From: Dave Lay Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

Longbow Honkey my thoughts exactly Cm thanks for the memories !! yea Alan A was the best of the old guys along with Roger raglin and Dan Fitz. i still have a buttload of vhs tapes of those guys.. like said above let any of the tv stars of today kill em like those guys did it aint gonna happen I REALLY miss those days... CM havent seen ya around in a while

From: Buckhunter Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

his tv shows and videos are some of the most comercialized that I have ever seen ............. They are a joke. ............ guy thinks he is a rock star and his constant bragging makes me want to vomit .................... on a scale from 1-10 for deer porn I'd give this show a negative 1

From: WvBareBow
Date: 15-Sep-10

I Watch him alot back in the 80's and even went and watched him talk met him he just like any other hunter just makes a living doing what he loves if you put a recurve in his Hands he would shoot with the best of them and I wish I could stalk a deer aswell as he does if he can see it he will tag it . Then cook the backstraps on his motor block on the way home lol ,

From: tnpaw
Date: 15-Sep-10

Watch Dan cook a meal on the manifold of his truck on the way to a specking engagement, didn't have time to stop at a resturant and eat. food was done by the time he drove to the place. it was meat, taters and onion's , i believe. wrapped it in tin foil and placed it on the manifold.....tnpaw

From: Dave Lay Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 15-Sep-10

I agree Dan is a showman.. no doubt.. more so than alot of the early video guys, but he could (maybe still can) shoot with the best of them, and was a heck of a hunter, i liked the fact that in the earlier days he seemed to kinda shun conventional camo.. now days it seems all about selling a product, which i guess ya have to do to stay on the air

From: Pointer

I remember him removing a backstrap from a freshly killed doe and grillin it up on the platform of a treestand that he placed over the coals... he was an incredible instinctive shot..I recall him shooting a longbow in one of his videos from the 80's..not at an animal but at a target. He was demonstrating his method as workable for compounds and trad bows. I remember the video of Guy getting his first deer...Dan was ecstatic..it was great to see. He could also be a bit goofy...pretending to change out of a suit and into hunting clothes in a phonebooth and picking up a small toad and swallowing it whole...and alive...on camera..lol...overall I would think a fun guy to be around.

From: tnpaw
Date: 15-Sep-10

Juneauhunt, never said i was a fan, Not much of a fan for any of the Horn Porn Guys, that is just one I happen to see and just caught that part of it. Didn't mean to step on anyone toes. To close to huntin' season for that. Shoot straight old friend........tnpaw

From: firecapt186

I watched a lot of his and Bob Foulkrod's videos back in the 80's. If I not mistaken, Dan's nickname was "Mr. Pass through". I seen the one where he was heading to his stand and him and the cameraman spotted a good buck feeding towards them and set up on the ground. The deer passed between both of them and you could see the hairs fly out as the arrow passed through the deer. That was about the only time that I've seen where you got the see the arrow as it came out of an animal.

From: Joe Van 125
Date: 15-Sep-10

If my memory serves me correct one of his best hunting buddies got in a lot of trouble over a deer he shot.

I bet Dan was no different!!!!!

From: Joe Van 125
Date: 15-Sep-10

To even mention his name associated with trad archery is just plain stupid in my opinion.

From: 36bound
Date: 15-Sep-10

He was a bowhutning porn videographer who brought us the very first SLOW-MOTION pass-through close up of a broadhead EXITING a whitetail deer.

His bowhunting porn, pig of a partner, Bob Foulkrod used to make references to his DICK at bowunting expos, which I once unfortunately had the displeasure of taking my (then) ten year old nephew and NIECE to.

They were BOTH slob compund hunters. And GOT exactly what they had coming to them.

From: Babysaph Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 15-Sep-10

Well Foulkrod did get kicked out of Canada for a while. Look it up. And as far as guys switching to compounds and promoting archery gear by the sponsors it seems some of our trad guys have been guilty of that. Jus saying

Guys-Guys,PLEASE!!I refrained from answering any threads for a long time but I visit the "Wall" almost Daily.I figured I'd answer this one because those that are bad mouthing Dan based on never having the opportunity to meet the man are waaay off base.He owned an archery shop in Tecumseh and I had the pleasure of meeting the man at his shop.He has always been nothing short of a humble hunter who has never flaunted his so called fame towards me or anyone else as far as I know.I am just an aquaintance to Dan but he always has spent some time to say "hey"and talk a litle. He's a religious man and how is that a bad thing too??I'm not trying to boast about a home town guy having made it big but I am confused how judgement can be passed when some people have never even talked to the man.As far as him promoting his son to elite archery status is not such a bad thing also because who around this old world wouldn't love to share archery with our sons. That my fellow Wallers is a pretty nice acomplishment for any family.Sorry about the long post but form your own opinions but please try to have a little background before rushing to judgement.ED

That was an old Amaker Treestand that he cooked on. I know because I have one and just put it in a tree this Labor Day. As far as the infomercials- he's making a living. I would do it.

From: Uncle Lijiah

I would think that if Dan Fitzgerald has been filming inside small enclosures all of these years, the deer and hogs he has taken on film would be much bigger (like some other video stars that I won't name here). Also, the terrain in his videos seems much too varied to have been filmed inside enclosures. For example, at least one or two of his hunts were filmed in southern swamps. Some in the north woods. Many in open midwest farm country. I think at least one was even filmed near the outskirts of a city. I believe they're fair chase bowhunting videos.

I do know of a small enclosed operation about 50 miles south of me where many monster bucks & raging boars have been bought and paid for and then taken on film. I won't name names. the reason being, I don't have any problem with guys filming hunts inside these enclosures provided they don't lie or mislead the viewer about the circumstances of their hunts. It's a "truth in advertising" issue with me if they take your money to buy their videos under false pretenses. That was the undoing of Noel Feather. I'll name his name since he was convicted and it's in the public record.

From: specklebellies

Friend of mine hunted with Dan in Wyoming and they weren't on a game farm. Dan killed a pretty good buck. Grew up wathching him, and though I don't care for his direction now, his past successes can't be argued with. Bite on that!!

Classic Levverwall thread right here, why even Jesus H. Christ couldn't get a good word out of most here, even a few christians would slip and bad talk before they even knew who they were talkin about!! As already said, I have always admired Dans old hunting videos, sure would like to hunt with him, some of yous guys, hell no, you would hang a fellow before he has been to trial 8^) Dan had a lot of good videos out years ago, I bet they would sale good if they were brought back out, same goes for the Leatherwalls Alan Altizer, his videos would sale good today! Real hunting captured on film.

Have you heard from Alan lately CM?

North American Rhinos was a good pig dvd by them. I remember one of his shows was him sitting in the rafters of a barn and shooting rats that wer getting into his feed! He shot a compound, but shot instinctive. Seems like a good dude. Also did some cooking segments. Greg \m/

Love the old footage and Dans excitement for any size deer he took. Miss the corn field stalks and "Average Joe" style, it was much easier to relate too. The old videos showed the common hunter in Michigan(or anywhere) how to get deer, not big bucks.;^)

OSB,

At least bitten has a voice of his own and doesn't run around spouting his wishy-washy brand of who's my next hero/bow/method! Maybe you'll understand once you pull your head out of Rick's a$$...though I doubt it, cause you'll just find someone else's to shove it up and if no one suits you I'm sure it will be firmly planted in your's!

The only time you post is when you need to start something. How about posting to help someone out, or just stating your oppinion instead of turning everyting into a personal vendetta defending your most recient idol...who's next? Spiderman? Spend some more time in the woods, post some pict's, and let your actions speak for themselves. Then, if you must, run your Cod Suck...at least you'll be qualified. Right now your just the guy who rides coat-tails and whistles through his touch hole. And I don't care what you did at the IBO's, cause I gurantee that there has been more meat hung from my game pole than you will EVER harvest...and it didn't cost me a thousand dollars(teacher's fees) to achieve it either.

Magwah, to answer your original question, Wing archery was one of Dan Fitzgerald's sponsers in the 80's or early 90's and they had a line of Dan Fitgerald Signiture bows that they carried, I think they had a compound, recurve, and even a signiture longbow with Dan's name on it. Wing is a good company, and if the bow has straight limbs, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it for a good price.

I'm getting an education here ............. I wouldnt have believed that there were this many fans out there ............ LOL

For my part ......... I only watch to get a real good laugh at the hokeyness ................. c'mon now .......... one show they were driving a semi tractor to their "hunt" ....hokey squared.........., cooking the steak on a treestand ? ...... whoopee... pure hokeyness .. I would be more impressed if they made a treestand out of a barbeque grill............... cooking their lunch on the truck engine ??? .... sorry folks ... there was a story in popular mechanics when I was in jr high school ( late 60's) about doing that very thing .

My favorite was dan filming guy running thru the woods with an arrow nocked jumping over logs and treetops and talking out loud to each other and then claiming they were "stalking" a wild boar ............ hokey !!!!!!

the show is a joke from top to bottom .

Yea i remember it was Noel Feathers that got in trouble over a deer he shot, my bad CM.

If you think Dan didn't know what Noel was up to you are just not being logical.

These guys hunted together for years and im sure Dan was aware of the kind of hunting his hunting partner was doing.

I met Dan and his son at a hunting expo years ago and after a few minutes of talking to both of them i just walked away.

I may have just caught both of them on a bad day but they were the 2 most arrogant hunters i have ever met.

From: Ollie Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

Are we talking about "Mr. Pass Through" TM? What a joke and clown he was/is! His videos were in extremely poor taste and presented bowhunters as self-promoting killers of wildlife. Only Nugent rivaled him at that time in the "poor taste" category. Hunting over giant bait piles. Bragging about kill shots filmed from the exit hole side (how exciting to splash all over the cover of videos being sold in public!). And my favorite, he talks about deer calls and then as the camera pans away from his close-up mug shot he picks up two ears of corn from a gosh-awful giant corn bait pile and rubs them together with his stupid grin and says "this is the only call I use." Count me out if you want this to be a "We love Dan" tribute.

If I remember correctly it was Dan's mouth that bit him in the arse. Seems he was doing a talk at some big show (Chicago I believe) and was going on about the head shot and how viable it was for hunting. Somebody called him on it in a national syndication, at which point he responded that he never said anything of the sort. Well, our steadfast hero apparently did not realize that he was not the only one in the universe to own a video cam at the time and someone had taped him saying just that. He not only came off looking like a horse's rearend but a liar as well. This all took place at roughly the same time as Mr. Feather's poaching adventures so he had to lay low for a while. Now a new generation to watch him and off he goes again. Matter of time....... Ross

I believe his name was Seneca(and he was a senator, not a poet)...and the only thing that you prove is that you have no perverbial ground to stand on...keep giving us vid's of you shooting through your house. I'd prefer to listen to those who take their passion to the field and have a stance of their own...weather I agree or not...and you are not one! Go paper tune some arrows in your hallway and think of more reasons why we all suck!

I think the kid is the future of archery TV whether Chip likes it or not (or me).Look at the Bone Collector, the Buck Commander etc-young guns appealing to the new money from the younger viewers is where the future (money) is at.People are sick of Bill Jordan's bad facelifts etc and believe it or not the T and A phase has peaked imo-every pretty chick with a TV show-the BUYERS that the shows appeal to -the the younger guys in the audience-the T and A gets old even for them and the young roughneck host is the new appeal-like it or not.

I digress to your history...My bad! The rest I stand by...not suprisingly. Anyway, I think Chip had this thing under control before you chiped in! See you in the woods...Opps!...not!

You guys should watch his videos a little closer. I think it was "Bitter Cold Bucks" and mind you this was a LONG time ago, but Dan and his best friend Noel didn't even have the savvy to edit out the 10' deer proof fence holding their bucks in--out.

Didn't Dan possess the Michigan state record Largemouth Bass at one time???

I met him once at the Wis Deer Classic. He took the time to talk to everyone, did not blow anyone off, and seemed to be a truly nice person.

I liked his earlier videos, they were great.

Of course he does not have the Drury Brothers hair styleist....

As for his Christian beliefs. like Al Linder, who cares I admire him for that,,,,,,,,

Man, that guy can shoot a bow......................

Best show he had, was when he threw his tree stand on the fire and cooked deer straps............ I loved that one.....

I agree with the above comment that the money is in appealing to the redneck crowd. LOL

Yeah; I wish they would come up with a perfect video! Something like; some half camo dressed,, redneck hunter that looked like Pamela Anderson, hunted as hard as Fred Bear, and shot like old Stacy Groscup! I think that video might sell!!!

CM sackett You and the rest of the Dan Fitzgerald lovers need to do some research before you put him high on your list. Years ago here in Michigan he claimed to have caught the state record large mouth bass. They found out he just got back from down south, ends up that the fish came from down south. Before you lovers start bashing me for posting this,do some research, this info was in the newspapers! I believe he turned into the thank Jesus guy that you all worship shortly after that time. Sorry to burst the bubble, just tossing some Facts out there. Kinda like Tiger woods, not as good as he seemed.

is this what traditional archery is all about? A bunch of hotheads who think they are perfect and know it all. seriously is there not anyone besides yourselfs that you don't have a problem with? I highly doubt half you people who act like you do no wrong are completley innocent. You can fire back whatever you want your not going to hurt my feelings. sorry to the very few good guys on this site this is not directed to you.

Titus - not surprisingly you believe wrong - the quote is attributed to the Roman Poet: Decimius Magnus Ausonius (310-395). He was poet and rhetoric instructor and taught St. Paulinus of Nola, who later became Bishop of Nola. Ausonius himself became a Christian before he died. POSTED BY : Onesharpbroadhead.

He was right about the TRUTH being the mother of hatred. It either offends or attracts.

Chris enck, not sure who your remarks are for. If someone points out the truth about someone you call them a hot head. You just can't handle the truth and it has nothing to do with knowing it all or thinking that I or others are perfect.

Remember, the man asked who is Dan Fitzgerald, and my reply was to give him some facts about him.Did not claim to Know it all or imply that I'm perfect! but the info I provided is the truth. Maybe I should have went along with the rest that don't know jack about him and you would consider me one of the few good guys on this forum. I know, I know, can't hurt your feelings!!!!

Have a good season !
