I'm finally going to get off my duff and build my stave vise. A few years back I bought the hardware kit for the Stavemaster from 3 Rivers. I was curious what would be a good wood to build the vise with? Any suggestions?

I made mine out of pressure treated lumber. It stays outside next to my shed and no problems. Mac

You are looking for a"Shave Horse" design. Tons of them on the net

This is a good style. Much better when the arm is on one side of the head (and shavehorse) so you can more easily get a large stave underneath the head.

Agree with using treated wood.
