hey yall; I need to find out how yousguys cover up your faces while hunting (most of us need to cover our faces all the time, but thats a subject we'll disscuss at a later date). What is your method, camo paint, or a headnet?. (does anyone remember the Unknown Comic?) Thanks

From: STICK
Date: 08-Sep-00

If I'm hunting all day I'll camo paint. In early season when it gets so hot in the middle of the day that we meet at the truck and go for a burger and some air conditioning I'll use a spandoflage (sp) type of net.

I remember the Unknown Comic, and I probably shouldn't admit it. Are you him?

Anyway, I use a headnet now. I used to go with camo paint, I got used to it during my time in the Army. I prefer the headnet because it does a better job and also keeps the bugs off my ears and face.

I use a spandoflage net with the face cut out to cover my ears and neck and then just camo my nose and around my eyes. My breard covers the rest of my ugly up quite well.

From: armadillo
Date: 08-Sep-00

In Georgia I used a headnet, mostly to keep the bugs at bay. In Michigan, after the first good hard frost just some camo paint.

From: Mark Normand
Date: 08-Sep-00

I've always used a headnet with wheel bows with great success. Now going 100% trad this year, and somewhat concerned that a net will interfere with shooting. Anything I should know about ahead of time? Mark

From: Joey Ward
Date: 08-Sep-00

Use the spandoflage, Mark, and you shouldn't have any interference problems. Easy on and off with no mess.

From: 'Wudstix
Date: 08-Sep-00

I use spandoflage netting with just eye holes cut out. I gets warm in the early part of the season in Texas, but cut the chill nicely in Dec/Jan.

From: wingnut
Date: 08-Sep-00

Good Question, I also have used a loose type headnet to keep the Texas skeeters off my head. However, that was with a wheelbow. Probably go with camo paint and bug repellent this year. What kind of camo paint do you like?

Mike

From: Al Snow

Usually wear a turkey hunter cap with a built-in headnet. Occasionally use camo makeup. Spandoflage makes me feel claustrophobic.

From: hntnfsh
Date: 08-Sep-00

Anyone know where I can get spandoflage in Predator or ASAT?

From: Paul S.
Date: 08-Sep-00

Best camo makeup I've found is called Carbomask. Comes in 3 tones and goes on easy and comes off easy. Kind of hard to find, let me see If I can come up with a order source. Happy hunting.

I use a face net when bugs are bad or late season when it's really cold. I use a charcoal briquette and some good ole saliva most of the time. It is cheap, washes off easily and isn't greasy and oily.

I use Spandoflage becouse it makes me feel like Spiderman. this place sold Carbomask before.

Here's some sources for the Carbomask face paint:

Bowhunting.net' bowhunting store has it for $8.99 per 2-tubes, go to this site and enter "Carbomask" in the search:

http://info.htcomp.net/bhs/store.nsf/

Here's another site that has it for $0.50 per tube, but you have to buy an entire lot.:-)

If someone knows of a LW sponsor that carries it, please list them.

From: Jason

You can always go down to the creek botom and rub on a nice thick layer of mud, it keeps the bugs of and is great for the complection. :>) Ive used both, I prefer makeup unless it is very cold. he he he

I use a half face mask with a camo cap. A half mask covers just below my eyes on down...there is a bendable nose piece to secure it and elastic to go around your noggin....a small snuff dipping hole and your all set for Texas hunting

From: Moosemeat
Date: 08-Sep-00

Da Moose has switched to spandoflage. I look scary enough driving home without the face paint ;-)

From: The Ferret
Date: 08-Sep-00

If bugs are bad, or it's cold I'll go with a headnet, if not I don't worry about camoing my face anymore.

From: Wahya
Date: 08-Sep-00

Beard covers most of my face anyway. If bugs are bad I use a headnet but usually just cover my hands and dont worry about my face. Mike

From: Les in Israel
Date: 08-Sep-00

But what do you use to hide your glasses? My beard covers the lower part of my face too, but the glasses make my face stand out.

I have heard that it is important to cover your glasses, because predators have eyes in front of the head. If a deer cannot tell what you are, but can see your glasses (which look like bigger eyes) then they need not know anything else about you but to skidaddle. How much truth is in this I don't know, but it makes sense.

Short of going to contacts or getting RK surgery, I need to find a way to disguise my round wire rims. Thanks

From: DRT
Date: 08-Sep-00

Les get some of those GI birth control glasses. I camo my face with whiskers and Red Man drool. Darren

From: Wahya
Date: 08-Sep-00

Les, there has been a lot of controversy on whether or not game animals see your glasses. If they are reflective, I would say that they do. I am near sighted but do not use glasses while hunting except for my hunting optics that is. If you have any fears of this then it might be better for you to wear a headnet or at least a partial that covers the upper portion of your face. Mike

From: John Scifres
Date: 08-Sep-00

I wear a headnet. I hate makeup :-)

I wear glasses also and don't think a game animal has ever really noticed them...at least that I could tell.

I use to use camo paint til one morning I hit the woods early before work . You guessed it I was late and went right into the office with a suit, tie ,jacket and the prettiest shade of camo green make up on. Today I use span-do-flage ...

In an elevated stand I don't bother with anything. Turkey hunting, I wear a net, but it tickles and isn't very comfortable. I used to paint up while deer hunting, but I don't like it and you're stuck with it until you can wash up.

Maybe you don't need face cover in a blind, but with a white beard, I always use something to cover my face, I've seen hunters in treestands that are camo covered from neck to toe, but their baby bottom face and bald head, seems to look like the bad moon rising.LOL Anyone that says deer don't look up, must be from the Plains states, these W.V. deer will pick up on your movement or uncovered face in a heart beat.

Danged Carbon mask, you went aways back for this one didn't you ?

You may want to try a camo Buff. The Buff is used for sun protection and is relatively cool, which is appreciated during the early season in Florida. They are available in various patterns fish as well as camo. They will stretch to cover the face or entire head.

From: JustSomeDude
Date: 22-Jul-14

I like. Overnight my neck/face from bugs in early season or spring and I like covering my face when it's cold.

Buff works well. ASAT Firstlite neck Gaiter worn with a hat....Spandoflage is good but doesn't break up your outline.

I wear ASAT Leafy with hood and facemask. Hides really well

I always use paint..... I think a shiny face has given me away a lot more than I know and now always camp up especially on a stalk!
