So about a year ago this time i was in the middle of gluing up a bow, when all heck broke loose, fox had come in the yard and grabbed one of our laying hens...wife chased it across the yard with hen in its mouth. he dropped it but the hen was dead, we made soup out of her.

Yesterday was such a nice day, left the chickens out for a bit. Well wouldn't ya know right in the middle of gluing up another bow, All heck broke loose and once again it was a fox...hens were scattering fox chasing them, he grabbed one.

...Our old rooster was doing his best to flog the crap out of the fox, i tried running him down, i guess between getting chased and flogged by the rooster and me bearing down on him at a dead run,it was more chaos than the fox had bargained for. mr fox decided to drop the hen and get out of dodge. Amazingly she was ok and hightailed it back up in the yard....Moral of the story......

never let the chickens out when your gluing up a bow.

Good story, we have chickens as well but hawks and raccoon are our adversaries. They keep life interesting some days lol

Agree, No relaxing when the chickens are out for free ranging, Every predator is out for a free meal.

It's a wonder the fox didn't turn on the rooster. When i looked out the door hens were scattering and the fox was in hot pursuit of them, with the rooster in hot pursuit of the fox!

maybe he just figured those sharp spurs were to much to handle. I think predators naturally go for the easiest meal which was the hens.

Yeah, everybody likes a chicken dinner. Between us and the neighbors, there are enough dogs around to keep the foxes and coyotes at bay. Our biggest threat to the chickens are numerous Red Tail Hawks

Steve, next time you let the bait I mean chickens out you might want to be waiting with the 12 gauge. Good luck. Kurt

A well deserved death. If the little bugger would have tried stealing a coyote or bobcats food stash he would have died all the same. Get your own dinner, fox.

Never underestimate the determination and ill-temperament of a rooster protecting his harem! Good way to get flogged even if you're Mike Tyson. White Falcon, your rooster must be Foghorn Leghorn!

My buddy had a terrible problem with varmints. He came up with the best idea I've seen. He dug a hole under the fence so critters think they have a way in. Of course, there's wire on the other end so they can't actually get in. He has a cable snare set in that hole 24/7. He's cleared out all of the local predators with that set up. Most of the feral cats too.

Brilliant plan.

My buddy had chickens and after a year there were 5 Roosters and one hen left. A Fox ran in and grabbed the hen and took off with 5 Roosters hot on his tail. My buddy told me a couple minutes later they all came back with the Hen. Even a Fox can’t get in the way when it comes to love.

My neighbor has chickens and raises ring neck pheasants. He has trouble with minks. He lost 36 one time before he trapped the mink.

Tight fences make good neighbors.
