He hunted with a longbow, passed away lately. He was a founding member of the Allman brothers band.

Years ago he had a trick shooting segment on an outdoor show, American Sportsman, maybe? I think it was the same show Byron Fergusen appeared in. I used to watch it every Saturday it was on just to see them shoot. I have always liked The Allman Brothers and that made me like them even more. RIP.

Traditional Bowhunter had an article about Dickey and I believe Don Johnson (Miami Vice) back in the 90's. They both shot longbows.

Yup, Allman Brothers were a good band. Anyone remember live at the Filmore East? I went through a couple 8 tracks of that recording. RIP and condolences to the family.

Steve..lot of folks don't know what 8 tracks are..lol Growing up playing music we covered a lot of the Allman Bros songs. My brother did good on that slide guitar..Duane n Dickey were hard pickers to cover..great musicians. God bless them. RIP, Duane, Gregg and Dickey

Didn't know he was a longbow hunter, that makes his music even sweeter. You really can't beat the Eat a Peach album and the awesome track "Blue Sky". Live at Fillmore East is also outstanding. I saw Allman Brothers live on a double bill with Dr. John way back in the day. I think it was 1972 when I was in college...

Funny story. When we move to MD, our daughters were young and we hired a local HS Girl to babysit for a few hours in the afternoon. I meet the young lady and she tells me she is going to a family event and she was going to meet a famous uncle who plans in a bad. Yep, Dicky Betts; so had no idea and never heard of the Allman brothers.

I gave her my copy of Bryan Ferguson book and now have an autograph next to Dicky’ picture.

Saw the Allman Brothers a few times, the most memorable was in Orlando; Greg Allman couldn’t make the show, his stand in was Stephen Sills and a young teenage guitarist named Derek Trucks was on stage as well.

Didn't know about The Guys shooting bows. Seems that the ALLMAN BROTHERS had a song about "Don't Cha be No Fool...Don't Cha Mess up a Good Thang!" ????

RIP, Dicky Betts!

Way back when in my early days of Arrows by Kelly I made arrows for Gary Morris, Dicky Betts and Gary’s drummer Brad Smith and a fourth person I can’t remember. Also, did know at that time that Don Johnson also longbows. I’ve got a picture somewhere of these guys together, it used to be on my website but hope I still have it on my desktop. If I find it will post it.

-Rest in Peace Dicky - You were one of the greatest of all time. Loved your guitar playing and your love of traditional archery. Any guitar picker will know Dicky's killer lick From the song "You Don't Love Me" Live from the Fillmore East where he builds up and then tears a new one on his Gibson. God given talent. We will miss you Dicky Betts - play on brother!

Back in my old days the Allman Brothers Band was good music. I wasn’t into Traditional Archery, Still liked their music. Rest in Peace. Dickey Betts He probably was as good shooting his longbow as plucking his guitar strings.

A band that endured a lot of tragedy and managed to carry on, amazing group of men. I thought Down to the whipping post was their greatest hit, RIP Dickie

I had forgotten that he hunted with a longbow. Another huge loss, founding member of a band that defined a genre - guitar driven, blues influenced southern rock. RIP
