I see a lot of folks who prefer glue on nocks over bushing and press in nocks. I know wood arrows need glue on, but of you shoot carbon or aluminum what is the advantage of glue on nocks?

In my experience there isn't any advantage. But folks are different.

A lot cheaper with classic

I see no advantage but you have to use what the arrow will allow you to use.

I use wood most of the time so it is either glue on nocks or I self nock the arrow

One more John. Top Hat makes a nock adapter for wood. After doing a few I determined it wasn't for me. I installed lighted nocks on wood.

Glue on nocks on carbons are fairly rare. They're somewhat more prevalent on aluminum. Some older aluminums have the nock taper ground into a solid aluminum base, requiring a glue on nock. Newer aluminums and carbon shafts are hollow throughout and require an insert. Tapered aluminum nock inserts have been the standard for aluminum shafts for a long time. I don't know if they're still being made, but there's still a lot of them around. I suspect that folks who have them use them rather than purchase bushings and push-in nocks, a more recent offering for aluminum shafts. Almost all who use carbon use push- in nocks.

Regardless, an advantage of the press-in nocks over glue-on nocks is the ability of the user to get the nocks on straight. It's hard to screw up a push-in nock. They always go in straight. Some folks manage to glue nocks on crooked, even with perfectly tapered inserts. Too, press-in nocks are available in more throat sizes than glue-on nocks. On the con side, the bushings and press-in nocks are usually a bit more expensive.

The glue on nocks have a larger nock index in a better location on the nock that you can feel when nocking the arrow on the string.

I shoot both glue-on and press-in nocks with wood and aluminum arrows. Makes no difference to me.

Because we've been doing this since we hunted dinosaurs and have thousands in parts drawers that need to be used.

I use both as well. Years back 3R had a sale on nock adapters for GTtrad shafts. I bought a 100 originally to repair those cracks in nock end of arrow. By epoxying them in then use regular Bohning glue on nocks it works and saves an otherwise good arrow from the trash.

I cant say it's an advantage but my all time favorite nock is the discontinued glue on Merc speed nock.Still have aprox 100 on hand.

I prefer glue-on nocks because that's what I started with in the 1980s and it's what I'm used to. Glue-on nocks are less expensive than uni-nocks, but to be fair, I find a hard impact is more likely to break a glue-on nock than a uni-nock. Objectively, the uni-nocks and their ilk are better nocks.

The advantage for me is I use Mercury Speed Nocks as they have the best string fit of any nock I have ever used, as they don’t snap on but slide on with an excellent tension fit.

They are only available as glue on.

Once I knew they were going to be discontinued I amassed a pile of them!
