And no, I didn't make it, I bought it from a local bow maker, who I met at the Cane Creek 3D shoot. It's an Osage Orange, 46#'s @ 28". I shot several bows that he had completed. He had a lot of billets and several roughed-out bows, waiting to be tillered and finished.

He had a couple of others that were really nice but I seemed to shoot this one the best.

He lets most of his bow staves season for 2 years or better before he make a bow out of them. Anyway, I wanted to get my feet wet, and start shooting a selfbow, in the current 3D Trad shoots, I am starting to go to. He had a really nice Hickory bow roughed out, that I could have gotten worth the money, and finished myself, but I passed on it for now.

So, here's a few pictures, I will be posting. This bow didn't even have a nocking point on it when I got it, today. I added that first thing. I do think I will probably modify the shelf on this bow, to a little more rounded profile. He normally doesn't cut shelfs into his bows, but this one he did.

He used overlays on the tips, and cuts grooves only in the overlays, he told me.

I am not very good at taking pictures. But I will post a few more.

This bow has a little bit of deflex, or maybe it's called backset when unstrung. I thought it had a little better cast than a couple of other heavier draw bows he had, but It was probably pretty close, and hard to tell. I felt like I liked the action and draw curve or whatever of this one, the best.

Thank's guys. Of course, making one myself, is my eventual goal, but this gets me started, at least. It seems to be a really good solid piece of wood, so I think (hope), it will last, and not blow up on me or something, anytime soon.

That last picture is of the back of the bow, and there's not really a flaw or weak spot that I can see. It seems like a really clean piece of Osage, not that I know much about it. I did get to watch him clean up the back of a green stave, the other day, before he sealed it, for seasoning, and he looked like he was really skilled with the drawknife, he was using.

Now, I have to get or build some good wood arrows for it. All I had was carbon Gold Tip Traditionals, to shoot. It shot some full- length 400's pretty good, but likes a heavy arrow, and I like the sound and the feel, of the bow, with a heavy arrow, 650 grains or so, and it shoots that really quite flat out to 20 maybe 23 yards or so.

Wouldn't change much about that one. I prefer an angled overlay glue joint so the force is down into the limb rather than all on the overlay.

When you re-work the shelf you may want to bring it down closer to your hand and that will open up the window a bit too. It's a little crowded.

And if you think that’s fun, wait till you shot one you make.

Runner, Yes, actually the arrow is touching my index finger, already. But that shelf could probably benefit from a little reworking. I shot it quite a bit today, with a new wood arrow, I made up, out of a Surewood Hunter Shaft, 45-50 spine and at first a 190 grain field point, but shaft was showing weak, so I heated it up and removed and replace with a 160 grain field point, and shortened the arrow slightly. It still shows weak but I didn't really want to shorten the arrow anymore, however, when fletched with 4 left hand 5" feathers it shot great.

That arrow shot fine off of that shelf, but I still will probably work it over, some.

And I asked him about the overlays, and did he ever have issues with them coming off. He said he had problems with a couple of bows a long time ago but changed glue and no problems since. I do like your idea of an angled overlay.

I would bet if you dropped down to 125 grain point you could drop down to 3 x 4” feathers and reduce your arrow trajectory drop because of less drag. Just my thoughts.

I don't have any 125 grain points but might try them later. However, I do like a pretty heavy arrow with some FOC. I need to order more shafts, at this point. 125's would have worked good on my current shafts I built out of 45-50 spined Shurwoods, Douglas fir.

bentstick54, Yes, I am cutting down some 5" to about 4.5" long right now, to finish out the half dozen I am finishing up, for a 3D shoot this saturday. My brace height is really a little low, for longer feathers, in my opinion. I don't have any more shafts at this time, so I am stuck with this combo for right now.

For your reference purpose my 45/50 DF arrows cut to 28” to back of point with 125 gr points and 3 -4” feathers will average around 485gr to 500 gr depending on the raw shaft weight.

Thanks for the info on the arrows. I bet those fly pretty flat. I have made up 6 arrows (all of the shafts I could get quick) I wanted to stay about full length for now, because that is what I have been using, lately. I am shooting a 160 grain tip, 45/50's, again all I could find, locally, except lighter spines, and 4 each LW feathers, cut to about 4.5".

These are flying really good but did bareshaft a little weak. It has a trajectory simular to my longbow with hunting arrows. Weight is about 620 grains give or take a few. I do like the way this bow shoots and sounds, with these heavy arrows. I didn't have any 125 grain points or might have given them a try.

Good Pyrimid bow design. Should shoot good with little shock.

Thanks, Yes handshock is not bad at all, but I do shoot fairly heavy arrows.

I like that Pyramid design also. And this bow seems to be maintaining its setback, which I think gives it a little more cast.

9 grains per pound of draw will make it faster . That’s a good weight for targets if you shoot 3D. I hunt with 11-12 grains per pound of draw.

I am shooting 11 to 12 grains per pound with 160 grain field tips.

I just got a couple of cedar shafts in 50 to 55 lb spine. These are about 50 grains lighter than the doug firs I have. Definitely a faster arrow, by a noticeable bit, but trajectory is pretty much the same, until I get out to about 27 yards or so. At 40 yards they shoot about a foot flatter.

Here's a few pictures of my arrowrest after I re-contoured it and added new leather on there.

On this last picture, I attempted to show the relationship of the arrow shaft on the rest. I have the string pulled back some, to get the fletching out of the way, better. The brace height is nowhere near as high as it might appear.

I am getting pretty good arrow flight, if I do everything right.
