JD makes wonderful bows,I have a Morningstar and it shoots lights out.You will not be disappointed if you are used to shooting longbows.

Forward riser, nice grip especially compared to other forward handle ASL's. I enjoyed the one I had, a real pleasure to shoot. Doubt you'll be disappointed.

Had one and really appreciated the craftsmanship and shooting characteristics. The only reason I sold it was the grip was too large for my hands. James is one of the top echelon bowyers IMO.

I have a Northstar, and a Morningstar. Love them both. The sting follow of the Northstar makes it so smooth and easy on the draw. It has been my primary shooter for a couple of years now, although I'm currently shooting a Vixen that I recently acquired, and I'm really loving it, too!

I am addicted to the ASL I have a St Patrick Lake american stik and a HH legend stick. I have dedicated myself to shooting this style of bow. Can't put them down. Thanks all

James D Berry. Good

It’s forgiving, plus forgiving, plus beautiful, plus wand like…. Yeah they are amazing.

If I had a negative to say it would be I feel like the speed/cast was less than the morning star and vixen but it is so easy to shoot

Every JD Berry bow I’ve seen has horrifically uneven string grooves. If something that seems relatively easy to achieve ismessed up so badly and still shipped out, that would make me very concerned about the fit and finish of the rest of the bow. Workhorse, tried and true bows with a good following? Sure. But. Not even close the quality of Northern mist, Toelke etc.

I have 2 JD Berry bows, both beauties.

i agree with Dicky..I've had a couple that had poorly done string nocks..My Mahantago Redtails are the ASL for me... They shoot right up there with anything else out there and are very well made..

This was said "every JD Berry bow I’ve seen has horrifically uneven string grooves". And I say that's a bunch crap!!! I own one and it absolutely 100% even grooves. Lol that's a comical someone can bash a JD Berry bow.

I have had about 10 J.D Berry bows.

Some were of his fanciest editions. Those were the most beautiful and intricate longbows ever made overall IMO.They were also perfectly crafted from tip to tip.Truelly Bowyers works of Art form an Icon that has been building bows for half a century! He was also an innovator with some of the unique details he put into his creations

I know he had some trouble when he lost his eye.Who wouldn't.So some are probably less than his best work as he adjusted to monocular vision that can make precision work difficult as you adjust. That takes some time.

You get it now right?

Do you have pictures of his R/D Bow? I remember a lot of double arched risers, fancy limb inlays and tips.

Sorry no pics William.

I had his Renassiance and Appollo longbows. They both had double arched risers with inlays. Some with elk horn and other ornate work.Arrow inlays in limbs on the back.Typically zebrawood for the fletchings I believe. One of mine had elk antler arrowheads and thirteen woods overall. It was J.Ds Appollo.Custom Berry tips.

He also built the diamond inlay in the limbs flowing into a pinstripe up the limb in his Viper longbows. The Berry tips you can see above that are on some bows. They look great and string up easy.

X3 on the uneven string grooves. Ive seen more than a few that were terrible.

I own two Berry bows currently, and they are straight. One I had to even up a little bit, but the other was right when I received it. They both shoot very well and I'm happy with them now.

My advice, if you're buying a used one, ask for VERY good pics. Some guys don't care, or pretend not to notice. If that's you then don't sweat it. They are usually good shooting bows.

MorningStar, Northstar, Apollo, renaissance, and a few others from James, all the tips are perfect. I have a Northstar ambidextrous that was a gift from James because he heard I had a bad shoulder. No who does that????????

JD is a really good guy, and fun to talk to. I had a Morning Star, and I think a North Star. Nothing wrong with either one and they were both “OE”.

James Berry....a bowyer who's been at it longer than most on here have been alive. A true gifted craftsman of superior bows back then and now. An innovator, always looking to perfect the performance let alone the beauty of his bows where he has no, none, zero competition with the many woods, intricate arrow inlays on his Renaissance and Apollo models that nobody has been able to copy tho there are many bowyers who've tried. I can name quite a few that have tried.

Addressing the crooked nocks, sure enuf they're out there. I've seen some pics and had one in hand at the K-zoo show a few years back. An absolutely gorgeous Morning Star that had a crooked string nock at top, bottom was fine.

Talked with James this past January, he called to see how I was doing...that and something else. James has built for myself and my sons several bows going back a couple of decades (no crooked nocks). My oldest son won't hunt with any other bow other than the Serpentine James built for him tho he has a couple others and can always help himself to my collection. My two Renaissance bows put meat in the freezer for many years.

James has had vision issues long before losing sight in his right eye. He's had some other serious health issues. I won't delve into what this man has had to face, not my place and nobody's business. He's aware of the nock deal, we talked about it. Shouldn't happen anymore.
