Something I often think about, none of us have perfect linear draws, even settling into good back tension and pulling through the shot has a lateral movement. So my question is this… even if proper care and storage is done, is it a matter of time before a recurve limb is “trained” to one direction or the other and starts to twist slowly but definitely? I usually favor longbows for this reason, longevity. Am I overly concerned about twisted limbs? Hahaha

You are indeed overly concerned. And even if you weren't you couldn't avoid it based on your statement.

Nope, 99.9% of limb twist comes from improper storage. Shooting is the best thing you can do! Arrowchucker

You can avoid developing limb twist by shooting the bow upside down every now and then. ;)

Yeah, it's not going to happen, but I'll take it a step further. If a bow you shoot regularly (and take appropriate care of) develops a twist, or has a twist that progresses, well, let's just say it won't end well.

There is no issue because of a bow begins to develop a limb twist you simply need to take a minute and twist it back until it is straight.

A bow limb could be twisted by gripping it tightly so it is drawn with the limbs being offset from the path of the string during the draw. Herter’s actually cautions against that in the brochure they provided with bows that describes how to fix and prevent limb twist.

I got this 1964 Browning off ebay about 5 yrs ago for cheap when nobody else bid on it because of the obvious twist (middle image) .Learned how to deal with twist in the 60s as a kid. FF string and it stays strung. Very fast old bow and the twist has never returned. Mid 180s w/10gpp arrows. Wish I was still as fast for my age.

After refinishing...it's definately a keeper and gets shot regularly. 45@30 my draw.

Improper storage is a big cause of limb twist, but so is improper stringing and unstringing of the bow. You won't twist a limb by shooting a bow unless you exert humongous sideways torque on the bow. More than most mortals have the power to do, but there's always that rare exception.

Yea I have looked at simple stringing instructions from older magazines and they most always show the step through method .To me that is a twist in the making shooting the bow would be next to impossible to twist the limb .Plus storing with the bow in a,corner with the weight of the bow itself on the limb.
