I dug out the old longbow my dad has had in his closest since I was a kid. It was in his great aunts attic when she died. It is still in the original box and there is also a box of arrows, the string and an arm guard. I believe it is either a 1941 or pre - ‘41, the arrows are 1942 arrows still new in the package and as far as I can tell none have been shot.

Some moths or mice got into the box while it was in the attic and ruined some feathers. I’m not sure how rare these are but this thing could go in a museum. The bow still has the draw weight tag taped to the leather grip with clear tape.

I can’t find hardly any info on the store that sold it but their phone number was only a 3 digit number which dates it back to the early 1900’s.

Thought I’d share. It would be fun to string it up and see if it would shoot but it sure would be a shame to damage it.

Sorry for spamming all the photos. Couldn’t figure out how to add multiple to one post.

That is insanely cool. I have no knowledge to share, but wow, what a treasure!

Very cool find! I’ve had a couple of those bows, and the problem is that the glued on riser build-up tends to let go when strung up . 75+ year old glue.

Very nice set!

Like opening a time capsule, nice, nice. I’ve had the same thing happen that mahantango describes, handle pops right off when braced.

Wow! That’s a Rare find indeed. Might be the only complete never used set like that. Something that’s worthy of an archery museum. Very cool find. Since that bow was stored in an attic with extreme heat conditions. I wouldn’t string that old bow.

Amazing! How cool is that!

Don,

The bow has been in a climate-controlled room for the last 30 years. My great, great, aunt died back in the 90's which is when my dad acquired the bow.

I remember stringing the bow back when I was a teenager but haven't even looked at the bow in the last 20 years. We were over there for easter and dad brought out a couple of rifles he picked up which reminded me of the old bow. I actually never knew that there was a case of arrows for the bow, it's probably a good thing I didn't know about them as a kid or they would be gone.

Well Curtis, I have had more then one old bow blow up on me at full draw or close to full draw;) If you try and shoot it. Warm that old gal up slowly. If you hear any noises while drawing her back. Stop immediately! :) Good luck with that old bow and thanks for sharing the pictures with us. That is an amazing find.

That was the best, latest and greatest, state of the art archery equipment back then probably. The 3 digit phone number is cool at the least
