I was looking thru an archery magazine from March of 1948 when I came across this ad. I was shocked, cheapest feathers are all black, natural barred just a little more. It was the white and dyed feathers that cost the most. A Home know what changed? Also interesting to see all the Osage fore sale. The magazine has many ads for yew and osage. No fiberglass at this time, but for titan backing was popular

I guess white & dyed were more fashionable at the time, but it’s like food these days…. The less processed it is, the more expensive it gets!

Was that before all the hybrid white turkeys made an appearance and most were the darker natural birds?

As a 12 year old in 1956 I started making my own arrows and remember buying full length feathers from a local archery shop. The solid color feathers were always the most expensive and the dyed barred feathers a bit cheaper,...the cheapest were the gray barred feathers (i.e., "naturals"). (Just FYI...it was a "basement archery shop" in a guys home a couple of blocks away. He was a WWII USMC vet and when I knew him a teacher and swim coach at the local high school. A good guy, gave me shooting lessons.)
