I have been making arrows since the 80s but had been mainly using Duco glue. I have had some aluminum shafts that no matter what I do to them, the fletching never sticks very long if at all. So now, I have wood, carbon and aluminum shafts to fletch as well as some wraps if possible.

My question is this, before I order some glue to try to glue feathers to all of these, is there one glue that seems to work the best for all applications? Years ago, I was able to buy Fletch Tite locally but that source dried up. So, what the heck, ask and see what seems to work for most of you before I order. Thanks, Jerry

I have always used Fletchtite Platinum on wood, carbon, and aluminum shafts with no problems as long as I cleaned the shafts good before applying. I wipe down my carbons and aluminum’s with acetone and let dry before fletching.

One of the most universal fletching glues I have ever used is Saunders NPV.

I know lots of folks have good luck with super glues, but for whatever reason I don't.

Like bentstick, I use acetone and fletch-tite on aluminum shafts. Other than when Bohning changed the fletch-tite formula years ago, and had to iron out some problems with the new formula, I've had no problem with feathers staying on.

1 have some aluminum shafts that i fletched with regular Fletchtite almost 50 years ago the feathers are a little on the raggedy side but still attached.

I used Duco for a long time but switched to Saunders NPV for another couple of decades when I moved to carbon and aluminum. Lately I've been using Fletchtite Platinum with good adhesion on all types of shafts.

Fletch tite or NPV glue on bare aluminum. There were some issues some years back with the fletch tite when they changed formulas to accommodate water based finishes. To be honest I went with NPV glue for a lot of years. But to avoid all those issues I went with wraps, usually make my own, crest them as well. Since I started using wraps I haven’t had any issues except with some ChiCom arrows that were silkscreened instead of painted. Prep my aluminum the same way for years, bare shaft, dipped, or wrap. I scrub the shafts with Comet Cleanser and hot water using one of those green pads.

Been building arrows since early 1950s. I make my own & build repair for 8 family members now. Aluminum, Carbon & wood shafts. Vanes & feathers. Dip painted, Wraps & bare shaft. I have always used Fletch-tite & now it Fletch-tit-Platinum plus. Prep on all is I just lightly scuff with fine steel wool. Wraps, just fletch. Dip paint, just fletch. You can't rip them off. I do lots of Aluminum as that is what I use hunting & competition. I have some aluminum hunting arrows I have no idea how long they have been fletched but they are "stuck on" for sure. If it's old (1 yr +) it may not work well. Depends on where you stored it. Mostly Blazer vanes. Some vanes need prep & I've never used them..

I have some old, I believe that they are X7 aluminum shafts that I couldn't get fletching to glue to. I cleaned the fool out of them too. So, may try the wraps with them and either the Platinum or the Sanders.

I still shoot x7 2014s...you better hold on to them...the shafts alone are over $10 each now.

Simple fine steel wool scuff on bare shaft always does it. Wraps, just fletch. Fletch=tite

Bob, I have 26 or more x7, looks like 27" long 1816 size. some I had painted white years ago.

I use Duco for all my wood arrows but anything else I use the Saunders NPV glue. I've had good luck with it.

Saunders NPV. Clean with acetone, not alcohol, only acetone and thats it.

I use Gorilla glue on my fletching, and then I dab just a tiny bit of Fletchtite Platinum on both ends of the feather quill. I have messed up and had a problem getting the Gorilla glue to stick, if I inadvertently dislodged the feather from it's correct spot. Sometimes I my hand will slip, but most of the time, it works great and like today, I made up an arrow, to try on my longbow, and I fletched that arrow and was shooting it, in literally 5 or so minutes and I shot it a lot, and the feathers never came loose.

I also use Gorilla glue to glue in my inserts. It works as good as anything else for me. I use the glue with the blue cap.

I do clean everything with alcohol including the insides of my carbon arrows. I don't wipe alcohol on the quill of the feathers, although some people do. I never have trouble with fletching comming loose, but I use a lot of glue. I know, I have bought arrows at the bow shop before, that had very little glue on them, and I would have some of those come loose on me. I think they used glue too sparingly, for appearance's sake. I don't worry about that, myself.

Fletchtite platinum on carbon, aluminum and wraps. Always used duco on wood without a wrap

I've been using Saunders NPV glue on aluminum, seems to work well.

Use wraps, and super glue type glues. I like DAP Rapidfuse or the Gorilla Glue.

Make your life much much easier and fletch a whole dozen in an evening.

Bonds in seconds, and warm the wrap and pull the whole job off when it comes time to refletch.

Buy Oracal vinyl at hobby lobby and cut your own wraps. A whole dozen will only cost you $2-3.

I don't fool with anything else anymore.

Saunders arrowmate npv

Clean with DENATURED alcohol not isopropyl.

Works for me aluminum or carbon.

From: Tradarcher4fun

I use Gorilla Glue for fletching and a dab of Flex-Bond Adhesive on front and back of each feather. Using carbons.

I've glued all kinds of shafts and wrapped shafts with the new fletch tite. Never had a problem. Super glues are ok. But some get brittle over time. And some discolor wraps.

I use Fletch-Tite or Bohning Fletching Tape on all my aluminum and wood arrows with no problems. Wood arrows I dip the crowns in paint and then seal with polyurethane before fletching. Aluminum I rough up with fine steel wool or fine grit sandpaper then wipe off with either acetone or alcohol before I apply a wrap. I don't use paint for crowns anymore on aluminum I only use wraps now days. I haven't had any problems with fletching staying on for target shooting or bowhunting. The last three years I used aluminum arrows with fletching mounted with either Fletch-Tite or Bohning Fletching Tape for hunting with zero problems.
