Converting ILF limbs to fit Hoyt's Dorado, GameMaster, et. al. risers

Any ILF limb can be coverted to fit Hoyt's "old" Tiburon, GameMaster, Gamemaster II, Dorado and the Reflex, Traditions and Nomad risers to make a bolt-down recurve bow.

I do NOT recommend using Uukha or similar limbs and they can't be bolted down solid on your riser. If you venture toward those type limbs, be sure to keep the back of the limb level (parallel) with the limb pad to avoid binding the limb on the pin which could cause damage. You'll also need to be careful when stringing the bow as the limbs will be loose until the bow is strung.

Here's all you need to do:

** Remove the cap screw, spring and pin from your ILF limb.

** Press out your ILF bushing

** Install your new homemade "Hoyt" bushing

** Finish off with a 3/8" black plastic hole plug

Note: On some rare occasions, you may need to remove stock from the end of your limbs to accommodate Hoyt's lip on their bezel. Or... you can just buy a round bezel (countersunk washer) and not worry about it. You'd need a 10 mm bezel washer to fit the 3/8" limb bolt.

Let's take it one step at a time.

First: Remove the cap screw, spring and pin from your riser.

Second: Press out the ILF bushing. This can be done in a vice, on a drill press or with a hammer and bolt.

To use a vice, what I do is use a small 2 x 4 block of wood with a 1" hole drilled in the center to catch the fitting as it comes out of the limb. A large socket will serve the same purpose. I put a 3/8" bolt on the top of the fitting and simply press it into the hole in my block or socket.

If you don't have a vice, you can chuck a 3/8" bolt/pin in your drillpress and push it out.

If you don't have either, you can simply use a hammer and two blocks of wood. Just set your limb on top of the blocks, and drive the fitting out with your hammer and bolt/pin.

Third: We need to make our new homemade Hoyt bushings. To make those, all you need is a piece of 3/8" OD x 1/4" ID copper supply line. You can get that at your local hardware store; usually you can buy it by-the-foot. You'll use a tube cutter and simply cut off a piece of your tubing 3/16". Sometimes you'll need to champfer, trim with a drill bit, or sandpaper the inside some to fit over the pin on your riser.

Push in your 3/8” plastic hole plug and this is your finished limb ready to put on the bow.

Huh? I don't know what that is.

Anyway... it's been pointed out that you can also use a socket and C-Clamp to press out the ILF fittings. So....

Thanks, Jim. This is exactly what I needed to learn how to do for your Barnett riser.

Great tutorial thanks

When removing the ILF hardware be careful about the spring. They can become airborne and disappear. Ask me how I know.
