I have been making my own carbon arrows for over 20 years. Beman or Easton and I cut to length and glue inserts in with hot glue adhesive. I have two sets of arrows that I probably made at least 5 years ago. I was shooting yesterday and one arrow in set 1 left the insert in the shooting block. Today I am shooting a different set of arrows and the same thing happens with two arrows.

WTH is that? It looks like the glue is loosing it's adhesion after a few years. I haven't had this issue before. Anybody else see something like this?

I'll clean the effected arrows and use a quality super glue to reinstall the inserts.

Some of it gets brittle over time and that does happen. Super glue can and will do the same thing.

Gorilla Glue...blue top. Used it for years. No issues.

I use the blue melt stick for carbons. It never has failed, not once!

First the point has to be the same diameter as the shaft and I also use the blue cold melt.

I had hot melt glue fail also after years of use. It looked crystallized and reheating may of worked but freezing in garage and maybe overheating in car may have taken a toll as well.

Big Jims hot melt. Best i ever used. Prep is the key!!

Scrub out with the wire brush, clean with denatured alcohol. Let dry. Then glue up with cool blue insert glue. No problem. The key is making sure it's scrubbed and cleaned. JF

I always use a carbon arrow cleaning tool I have. It’s scours up the inside, then like said above clean width alcohol. I use gorilla glue as well for carbons. No problems

I will second the blue top Gorilla Glue recommendation for carbons.

I started using Stanley high/low hot melt.

So far, so good. I love it.

The bond has over 600# of tensile strength.

Easy on/easy off with just moderate heat.

Only drawback to it is - it's hard to clean up the excess from the shaft, but even that's not a real big deal.

Nothing works forever including the above mentioned glues. Sooner or later it’s going to give. I don’t care how clean and sterile the shafts and inserts are. I have the above mentioned cleaning brushes and use Acetone and clean swabs for each shaft. I have even run a rat tail file in the shaft to create some grooves for better glue adhesion.

Rick Barbee, is that Stanley glue, as in Stanley tape measures/tools, etc. ?

Hot melt from Big Jims. A little heat on a field tip, and they pull right out. Wouldn't use anything else.

fdp and Pig Gunner are spot on. Everything fails eventually. Guys that aren't shooting good carbon have different opinions. But it's because the shafting fails first.

Bohning Insert Iron has been my go to for permanent installations and I can’t recall losing any inserts on arrows I used it on, many of them have been around a long time. Because I got tired of paying shipping on small items like glues, I have recently been using JB weld. Shooting 3D and stumping in Massachusetts and New Hampshire the past few years, with arrows put together using both of the above mentioned products and some with hot melt. The only failures I’ve had were the ones with hot melt but that was probably more due to my hasty install on those than the glue itself. Proper preparation is key with any adhesive.

Kimsha glue if you can find it. 3 rivers was carrying it.

I'm not sure why there is such a mystery to this. I use cheap craft low temp hot melt from Walmart. I use it on cedars, fir and also aluminum BH adapters, and the tips don't come off under usual shooting, and that includes stumps and sundry inanimate targets in the woodlots.

I still say you guys with issues on that use too much of it and get air pockets.
