Make a guess what this racked scored. The winner doest win anything, other than this nice little title. He or she gets to be the "Undisputed LW Antler Score Guesser"! I`ll post a few pics, then the answer in a few days.

This rack came from PA.

As I stated in your other post most likely a farm raised high fence pay to kill deer. Don't ever remember that being in the PA record books.

I`ll give the answer tomorrow evening. So far no one has hit it, but pretty close. I didnt like the answer he gave me but its what the guy said so thats all I can go by. I couldnt imagine a buck getting to that point in the wild, it probly was a caged deer.

Mike I have a friend that has a deer farm. He raises types like what you are seeing and a more "classic" look. He tells me guys/ladies that come to his ranch prefer the ones (like in your picture) to a typical. I would take a shed just to make stuff out of the rack...

You can find the Pa. records online for whitetail deer both typical and nontypical, and that one isn't among them so it's been genetically modified....like your pea soup and 200# pumpkins. :) I don't know how anyone could believe a deer like that would get that way in the wild without help. People do make a lot of money off of stuff like that so that is what drives it.

From: GlassPowered Hoosier
Date: 12-Apr-21

I’ve seen a little too much of bashing on the cervid livestock industry just to not say anything...

I hate to tell you guys but its breeding not gene editing. The pork industry hasn’t even gotten to it yet.

If you’re going to talk bad about an industry, be educated in it. Yeah its not fair chase and all.... but who am I to judge what someone spends and makes money on? And these people actually do some good things for kids with disabilities and wounded veterans. And you can’t tell me that if money was no issue whatsoever and knew the day your dad or grandfather was going to die and herd him say “well I never really got that big buck” you wouldn’t think about a farm or a guide.

The only real issue are disease transmission but there are ethical deer raisers out there that use reproductive technologies, closed herds, and using reliable sourced bucks.

Yes there are bad apples in the bunch that will bring in CWD or that guy that lies about that buck he shot on public land. But I can tell you: the same issues are happening between cow-calf producers.

I get your contempt, I was one of you. But I look at it as a livestock industry over a hunting one and it does have benefits when done responsibly. Take you hunter dignity and put it into your back pocket for once.

From: Pa Steve
Date: 12-Apr-21

George, exactly what I said in my first post. Total misrepresentation when some knucklehead says " the deer came from Pa". Any deer farm with the ability to alter genetics can produce deer like that no matter where it came from. Just another example of ethics having no boundaries.

George you're falling behind the times. Most eastern states record pumpkins have passed the 2000lb mark.

From: GlassPowered Hoosier

I’ll correct myself. Reading up on some things there maybe some GMO but not gene editing. Actually forgot some of the generic things they’ve done to mamials but ag hasn’t even attempted it due to public backlash digging them an economic pit of research and development... Seems like they are lowering inhibitors of growth of antlers. Still couldn’t find peer reviewed research on it but seems do- able since your goal would be to disrupt 1 or 2 specific segments of the genetics.

Interesting science but still, I don’t see the harm. Your wild dear are eating gmo corn and soybeans in the field most likely if you hunt the midwest. I’ve even genetically modified the arabidopsis thaliana plant with E. coli in my undergrad

So those deer are raised to have antlers like that? What is the point? They are tame deer. Sounds like a waste of feed to me. You can kill your own in the woods for food. And putting that on the wall would mean nothing if you had to buy it. I don't understand.

From: MikeT
Date: 12-Apr-21

So I talked to the guy, hes a official scorer, goes all over the country, but he lives off grid up here and I could barely keep a phone connection. That deer was pen raised in PA., he didnt know when it died, but he said alot of those big racked deer only live a few years and die. He didnt know the history of that rack. I`m not into pen raised deer, I guess maybe people make money off the sheds maybe, its kinda cool to see something like that, but the moral part is kinda sad.

We call those frankendeer down here in the lone star state. In my opinion I don't think it should be legal given the deer in Texas are owned by the people of the state. I'd rather see a 140" natural free roaming deer any day. But hey, some people like strip joints and augmented EEE breasts...

To each his own.
