I have a potential buyer for a Howatt and he asked me about shipping costs to Ireland. I boxed up the bow and took it to my post office. Priority insured was 72.00. Not too bad. What caught my attention was she asked me multiple times if it was a weapon. Because we can ship bows within the states with no problems I said no. However, I don't know if that is the case when it reaches Ireland. She also gave me a customs form to fill out. Anyone have experience with shipping overseas? Not looking to break any laws. Thanks.

I’ve shipped a bow to a buyer in England from Canada. Only problem was I sent priority and it took a month to get there. I sent as a bow. Bows aren’t considered firearms in Canada.

I don't understand your question. If the postal person asked you the qustions, and you answered the questions truthfully, you aren't breaking any laws.

If you want a definitive answer you are likely going to need to seek the advice of an attorney.

Ask the buyer.. They should be familiar w the laws and importing

Look it up they have a good list of items not allowed but bow is ok. Google shipping from us to Ireland.

They should have asked if it was a firearm. Never heard of them asking if it is a weapon. Maybe a mis-speak by the clerk.

Had a border agent ask me if I had weapons in my car crossing into the states for NALS.

I said yes.

Two longbows, a tomahawk and a leatherman.

Showed her the NALS flyer.

Sent on my way.

Not to mix up "firearm" and "weqpon". Firearm needs explosion. Bow does not qualify, mother in law YES. Weapon can be anything, bow included, because the weapon can kill a living creature, like a human.

I ship a bow to Sweden and the buyer instructed me to list it as "wall art". Went right thru but slowly. Same thing on a bow to Australia.

I used to ship bows to Australia. I used Fed X. I was told to put "Toy" as content. No issues.

I've shipped to Germany. It was a bow and I listed it as sporting goods, antique....which is what it was.

Shipped overseas many times. On custom form put riser and limbs. Arrows carbon shafts, aluminum shafts etc. Stay away from weapons description. I have learned to throw butter knives so always prepared in a restaurant. Is that a weapon or butter knife?
