Well fellow trad shooting guys and gals, time to put this out there. We have decided to go ahead with our annual trad shoot at Shade Mountain Bowmen this year. After a positive reaction by folks attending Sawmill..( Including myself), We are going to do it..We are a bow only club, so the generated revenue is most needed..! We are also in a county that has had minimal issue with COVID 19..we are cautiously optomistic..!!! So, here are the particulars. It will be the weekend AFTER Laborday weekend. So Sept 11-13. But you may set up earlier..So will be set-up bt Wed. the 9th..! We do have SOME camping, which is free by-the-way. And usually havena descent amount of people who utilize it..! Shade Mtn Bowmen is situated in Beavertown, Pa..one hour north of Harrisburg, Pa. In little old Snyder County. Center of the State. We will have 2 25-30 shot courses..all wooded and very scenic. Over 2 different streams which are bonafide trout streams..IF we arent in some form of drought. We will have a new "Challenge" course set this year, along with another great one as well. Also, the ever popular "Iron Man", 8 shot, 1 arrow match. Great fun..!! Also for this year..our first annual "water bottle shootout"..head to head match..!! Too much fun..! And some other novelties to whet your appetite !!!!! As usual, we will a a VERY AFFORDABLE kitchen open all day. Breakfast, lunch and supper. One of the days will be a chicken BBQ..done over the pit.!!! But hamburgers, hotdogs and other "staples" will also be available. Hope to see a nice crowd as we are planning on making this our finest one ever.!! Always appreciate all the fine fan following we recieve.!! We really cater hard to trad shooters as we ARE trad shooters..!! Will add some more particulars later next week. But any questions for now, ask away..!!! Many thanks in advance !!!!! Many thanks..! I tore flexor tendons in my right hand in 2010, forcing me to shoot all of my longbows and recurves with a Scott Dual Caliper release. My wife shoots an AMO 62", 35#@28" Wing "Falcon" recurve with a 5-pin bow sight. On you flyer, it states, "No Sights, Releases, Stabilizers, Binoculars Or Compound Bows". My wife and I almost always attend the Baltimore Bowmen Traditional Shoot, the Ski Sawmill(STAR), the Pinehill Sportsman Traditional Shoot and the ETAR. Since the ETAR was cancelled this year we attended the SKI-TAR last week. No one has ever complained about me using my Scott Dual Caliper release to shoot my bows, nor has anyone told my wife that she cannot use the 5-pin sight on her recurve bow. We are not competing in any event. We would like to attend this event, but it looks like we are being excluded. Is this indeed the case?

From: JGetz
Date: 30-Jul-20

You may surely shoot those bows any old way you wish..!!! There are a few side competitions that we may need to think over, but not from the release point. But for shooting the courses...shoot them any ole' way you wish. Come have fun.I didn't make that flyer up...the good guy that did didnt know. It was a rule from the old league shoots.Where the playing field needs to be level. But to come participate on our 3-D's...there are no scores kept by us. Just shoot away. Fair enough..??

From: JGetz
Date: 30-Jul-20

At Shade Mtn we are all about people coming and having FUN. And as I quoted above, ifbyou and the Mrs. need a rrlease and sights, go ahead and let em' rip. We just want you to have fun on those 3-D courses. There are a few novelties on the side where you can win a couple $$$ where we could perhaps have a "grey" area, but that is a very minimal portion of this shoot. Everything else, as I said before, shoot them as you please..As long as they are a longbow or recurve bow. And have a good time doing it. Absolutely non one will care....great question..!!!

My apologies to post this again, but can’t seem to get over the strange coincidence of something that happened to me Involving Shade Mountain Boe. several thousand miles away. In respect of your time I will keep this brief. While stump shooting in the hills at my archery club (San Francisco Archers), I came across a recently lost old 24srt aluminum that was in great shape. It is likely this was lost within several days but was never able to place the owner. Coincidentally, at the time, a friend was doing some genealogy research on my last name and he discovered that my family was from PA, in the area of Allentown and Lehigh. This was interesting as I had always known that my grandparents on both sides were orphans.

Well . . . Strangely, written on the old shaft is “Shade Mtn. Bowmen,” and M. Klingler.” My first name is Michael, and last name is Klingler.

By chance, is there anybody out there that may know if there are still some Klingers or Klinglers still shooting at the club? This may be boring to alll who have read this far, but I just can’t get over this coincidence.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Good arrows to ya all! Respectfully, Michael Klingler

So when ya say "We do have SOME camping, which is free by-the- way..." is there any way to give a ballpark idea as to how much "some" is? Like a football field, half that much, etc.? Our season in Maryland will open the Friday after Labor Day (9/11 this year). But if there's ample space to camp I might hold off on hunting and bring a few guys and camp (or perhaps by myself). Also a fantastic group I met at SKI-TAR may attend and it would be cool to see them again.

Thanks...Matt

From: 1829

John,

I usually would just sleep in the back of my truck (I have a cap on it) and put up a 10 x 10 shelter right behind it to cook under. So my "footprint" would be tiny versus a most campers.

Thanks, Matt

Better bring your BIG bow for THIS one..!!! Years ago this was our 60 yard field archery target..! A local member pulled his arrow from the straw bale back then and found blood on it. He discovered a fieldmouse had built its den in the straw..!! So...to further enhance his "shooting prowess"..he told the locals about shooting a mouse at 60 yards with his recurve..!! Howard Hill would have shot the cigarette from its mouth. See you all here..!!!!

Great shoot! Enjoyed meeting with new people and shooting the course. Thanks to Tom, Todd, and Paul for letting me shoot with them in the morning. It was great meeting Kurt B and talking about hunting McKean County. Great finally getting a chance to shoot with Jason. Great seeing Mr Getz and Mr Hess! As well! Great shoot and thanks to the members for putting on the shoot! Will get back next year!

Here's Yewbender, with what just might be the best shot of the weekend. To give you an idea of how hard this shot was, that "target" is probably only an inch and a half diameter and it was at about twenty yards... Gary was not even one bit distracted by the large foam animal just behind him. What a shot! This was a great shoot, thank you everyone at Shade Mountain Bowmen for putting it on.

Great shoot this weekend. Glad I made the trip from MD. I understand next year they'll have the tomahawk and knife throwing block in operation so I'll bring the tomahawk and throwing knife.

Well, just got home lil while ago...and i’m spent. The shoot turned out fantastic!!! I think the turn out was around 160 to 170 shooters!!! It was great seeing old pals and making new friends. A big thanks to Shade Mt. Bowmen for an awesome time and thank you all who attended to help make this a great shoot!!!

Hey Tommy, thanks for showing everyone my superior shooting skills and by the way...i’ll teach you how to take photos with a phone so they don’t post sideways!

A very fun shoot! A Buddy and I went for the first time on Saturday. I liked the courses, I liked the novelty shots, I LOVED the chicken. I took a half home for my wife and now she wants me to go every year.

We got to talk traditional archery (and maybe show off some bows back and forth) with some new people. The guys putting on the event were very friendly and helpful, and everybody seemed to be relaxed and enjoying the event.

We definitely plan on going back next year with more guys.
