There would be absolutely no difference. I prefer yarn puffs to either.

They are pretty much the same. I have a beaver pelt and a couple of muskrat and rabbit pelts in my freezer and I just make my own when needed.

fur or yarn puffs look great. But a full sized set of real rubber catwhiskers is unbeatable for silencers. Its hard to find real rubber so I use fishing lure skirting. You can buy a lifetime supply for a few bucks.

Weight is by far the biggest factor in the effectiveness of silencers. Equal weight of different materials will be virtually identical in eliminating vibration aka noise. Differences will be aesthetics, cost, ease of installation. Most can be slid to adjust unless wound thru the string several times.

Got an extra bungy cord lying around? If you do, you have enough catswhiskers to last you years. Look what's inside those things.

No material dampens vibration even close to rubber. Thats why every car and appliance uses rubber to dampin vibration and noise. Now days cat whiskers are silicone and don't work nearly as well. I still have old school rubber lure skirt material that I use. I bought 1lb rolls for 6 bucks each years ago.

Many years ago I bought a set of Kwikee Kwiver 3 star string silencers for my Bear Kodiak Hunter & really liked them. You could move each silencer up & down the string to the spot(s) where you got the best silencing. They were some type of rubber so water absorption wasn't a problem and were practically indestructible moving through thick cover. I also thought they just looked good. I don't think Kwikee Kwiver Co. makes them any longer.

Cat whiskers is my preferred silencers. I do have a couple bows I had to add those buttons on the string where it contacts the limb. I used Beaver balls and yarn balls before as well. Not my cup of of tea as they say, to much “stuff” .

To my ear I’ve tested whiskers, yarn and fur and honestly couldn’t tell the difference. Now I don’t worry about which, as long as I have something on the string.

Have had great luck with catwhiskers. Lately I have also used the yarn puffs and the outer sheath of paracord cut into 2" lengths. Gets real fuzzy in the string after a few shots.

I've had everytype of silencer on my strings at one time or another. They all work. I recently tried 2" pieces of paracord sheath like pickngrin mentioned. that is the easiest made and install I have had.

Most good bows take very little to work so most anythings fine. I've got 2 bows with puffs that came with them and they're silent. I like cat whiskers but if somethings working I won't change em.

Wool yarn works well. I also use raw wool direct off the sheep. I bought two different colors off eBay. About a ziplock baggie full each for little cost. Just pulled small amounts from each color, put in between string strands. Works fine. Sheep smell goes away quickly

If you use the fur just make sure you wrap it very tight around the string and cut the strips thinner if you can. They do look about as good as you could want in a silencer.
Cat whiskers are nice and shed water and burrs the best etc.
I find wool puffs made right are the most effective at dampening string oscillation and are thus very quiet.Wool sheds water well and with a slight pluck of the string the puff will be virtually water free in wet conditions. The only down side is they can pick up burrs.I make mine small and with a lot of strands and its very effective. You can then pluck of burrs etc easily. You don't want a big puffy ball with long strands sticking out away from the string.Trim the balls with sharp scissors.

Like beaver balls 'cause they look better to me than the yarns and rubber silencers. Still some noise with some of my old Bear rosewood bows with them, but they help. With the beaver balls, less noise from a newer type (AMF) Red Wing Hunter. The most silent bow I own is 2013 30lb Kodiak '59'er (remake) with and old time type B-50 endless-loop string and beaver balls. It's almost too quiet for just killing paper plates out back, but the beaver balls on it look great.

As storebought ones I MUCH prefer the Navajo Wool string silencers from Centaur over anything out there. They seem to be the perfect balance between silence and weight. They are almost completely waterproof too. Pricey, but super nice and last forever. I make my own too and love Llama wool silencers. It is also light and dampens string osciliations perfectly. Llama wool contains a lot of natural lanolin and is very waterproof too. Llama wool may be better than Navajo wool for silencers but I lack the skill to make them as well as the Navajo Wool silencers are made.....YMMV.

fur silencers look great, but don't work near as well as wool.
A good set of wool puffs will last as long as your string and will have enough lanolin in them to shed the water... guess who stocks those :) We also stock fur and cat whiskers, but the wool is my fav!

Wool Puffs are what I use most of the time. Easy to make, cheap to buy, you can make them in any color you want. And they work to keep a bow quiet. If they get wet just pluck the string and they puff back up.

Oddly enough in 30 years of using yarn puffs I've never had the issue of all the things getting stuck in them that everyone talks about.
And the Juniper hill sides and river bottoms I hunt are about as thick as they get.

In 30 years I have not had to pull porcupine quills out of my @$$.
I guess I should get out more.
In Idaho the sparcest(real sparse) grass seems like of little consequence to walk past in the upper parks. Its knee high or so. The seeds can turn a yarn puff hard as a rock. I wasn't paying attention so its my own fault.

Think I noticed a bit more pop with these silencers. Put another 60 shots through Big River longbow but they’re not all fluffed out yet. Pretty quiet and quick with 2315 arrows. Shooting tighter groups as well.

My latest new now is a a Samick Spyder with a non fast flight Flemish string. I found it to be deadly quiet after tuning to cedar arrows. No need at all for silencers. In fact, I have cancelled my plan to get a Flemish fast flite, liKing the silence more than I would the enhanced performance.
IF YOU AIN'T GOT A SAMICK SPYDER, GET ONE. INEXPENSIVE WITH THE PERFORMANCE AS GOOD AS ANY EXOTIC RECURVE I'VE EVER OWNED.
