Well, she caught on to my purchases...she's not angry but was concerned. The new deal with the wife is I have to sell things I have to fund the purchases of the new things I want. I suppose that is reasonable. Got some arrows and a bow or two that I'll have to sell off to go after the new stuff I want. Anybody else in the same or similar boat? I suppose trading up is something we've all done at some point but it will be mode of operation for the next little while.

OH YEAH, My only problem is selling the stuff I already have. I do this every once in a while. During lock down I picked up a newer Bear k4 off ebay and a Bear mag b handle. I love them both. I was going to sell my Schafer silver ghost or a vintage mint bear 59 kodiak to fund new toys. They just sit on the wall rack and look awesome. The only problem is when I look at them I do not know if I can let them go. It can be tough at times but shooting bows is funner than just looking at them. Good Luck!!

Not really. We both lead a conservative, spartan lifestyle while our boys were growing up. Now that they are grown and gone, the old habits remain. We do, however, let each other know before we make a larger than normal purchase. Not just a courtesy to each other, but also in case we need to move funds around.

Nope, never been a problem. I know what my wife buys and she knows what I buy.
Can't imagine ever buying enough archery equipment or anything else related to a hobby that my wife would be concerned when she found out

I recently sold about $1200 worth of knives that I have been carrying around since 2006 that I never used. Took the money and purchased a Ruger #1 International in 257 Roberts. Me and the Wife put ourselves on a budget since she will Retire in 3 years and we want to have 250-300K cash to buy our Retirement property. We both get spending money every month to buy whatever we want. Most of us have way more junk than we will ever use or need rather we want to admit it or not. My Wife always gets rid of something old when she buys something new.

I get rid of two and get a new one. Works because I had way too many that I didn't shoot anymore. I'm pretty sure I'm done using bows, arrows and equipment. I did buy a camo hoodie at JCPenney last week. I got it for $14.00, couldn't pass it up.

It’s not an issue with my wife but it is a policy I instituted for myself. I have enough stuff that I try to keep it more or less cost neutral at this point by selling about as much as I’m purchasing. It’s been handy in helping me acquire stuff I actually use or have available to give away to newly starting traditional archers.

Oh, it isn't that she didn't know I was buying, I think I didn't make sure she understood price tags. We've always kept joint accounts and truth is I don't bother with what she buys. We've been pretty frugal over the years, but I did go on a buying spree these past 6-8 months. It suddenly occurred to her how much I'd been spending. That's when the realization hit! I have been pretty spendy lately.

If you spend your money on something that is not a consumable, such as a bow, you actually will spend much less over time assuming you are willing to part with things. If you just keep on accumulating then that won't work. A good used bow will sell and your net loss will likely be small or even non-existent. The only new bow I own is a Kodiak Magnum I bought in 1967. All others I have bought used, normally in excellent condition. So I keep a saving account that I dump Christmas money and money from sales of bows, firearms (mostly antique or muzzle loaders I built myself), and even machinery (I have my own machine shop as a hobby). All that is open to my wife. I spend a fair amount each year, but the net is much less. She's happy and so am I.

My wife told me a little over a year ago that I needed to sell some stuff before I bought any more. I sold some of her Tupperware that she wasn't using and ordered some shafts and feathers. She wasn't home when UPS delivered the package. Don't know when she will miss the Tupperware.

I don't micromanage what Beth buys, and she returns the favor. We are both adults and know pretty much what is coming financially. I've been a tight wad all of my life, so buying a few bows isn't going to break the bank. I realized a few years ago that this hobby pretty much pays for itself. Not quite, but bow sales money goes into the sock drawer and bow purchases and supplies come out of the sock drawer. I haven't needed to ad any money for quite a while. It also helps that we have seperate banking accounts. I don't look and don't care what her balance is. All that I ask it that there will never be any credit card debt.

My wife takes an interest in each old bow that I buy, at least she pretends to, but I've overloaded my rack by half and I am feeling the drag on my karma . It's time for me to share the joy of shooting several of the best bows out there, as well as some of the lesser known ones. My wife is a fabric artist, I enjoy looking at unusual fabrics she finds, especially when she makes them into hunting and fishing shirts for me, She has been in hog heaven recently, making and giving away dozens of the prettiest and most medically-correct washable COVID19 personal-use masks in the world.

I guess it depends on how much cash flow you have as to how independent you can be with buying "stuff". When I was younger, I thought I needed more stuff, then I grew up. That said, we never made piles of money anyway so have always been budget minded and we sure don't have separate bank accounts. We still live pretty much like we did when we were first married and didn't have much of a pot to cook in.
Even with our frugal lifestyle...and yes, spartan it is, we still have visited every state in the Union except Hawaii, and have seen some wonderul sights and places. We haven't wanted for necessities ever, and our kids received good educations so they can also live well. Luckily, they too have learned to be frugal and that money isn't for just throwing around. You make and live with your own decisions.

Was my way or the highway when was married I do miss them though at times and other times I don't.
They said to me that I better hope my animals keep me warm at night. The animals talk to me and I have covers to keep warm. LOL
Now with the old days said I still gave them money out of feeling guilty at times to spend on their selves they would say Glenn what did you do or about to do? Are you leaving again when and where? LOL

Lost Arrow - made me LOL with your post.
My wife and I each have our own "Mad Money" savings accounts that are funded by siphoning off a certain amount from each paycheck. Kind of "pay yourself first" arrangement.
We can spend it anyway we wish, and do not have to inform, discuss, or seek approval from each other to do so. She does not have access to my account, nor I to hers, so we do not know each others balances.
Of course, the amounts taken are prudent, and do not impede our ability to meet our financial obligations and monthly bills etc. as they come first. We also have joint checking and joint savings accounts to run our household and lives together.
This is, and has been a great system for us, and has allowed me to fund my fly fishing trips to WY, plus all my related fishing and hunting enjoyments. As I tend to be a very judicious spender, especially at my stage of the game after years of "accumulation", my current balance is quite comforting. :)
In certain instances, we have "borrowed" from my mad account, and my wife (who handles the family finances) always makes sure I am repaid the full amount. I'm glad to do it as we are a Team -always have been and always will be. It's US, not just her or just me.
I hope all are well, safe, and healthy. Shoot 'em straight >>>----->

I keep no secrets from my wife. Guess that's why we just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary yesterday. She knows every purchase I make and usually before I make it. I guess she figures if the worst bad habit I can have is buying archery stuff then that isn't bad. As far as having the funds since I don't smoke, drink, do drugs, chase women, hang out in bars, or have a bunch of different hobbies I always have a few bucks to spend on archery equipment. :)

When I’m looking to make a purchase that might be a little spendy, I still discuss it with her ahead of time.

I made the same deal with myself last year. I have too much stuff. If I wanted something, I need to get rid of something. Took the money I saved and spent it on using the toys I have instead of buying more. (Btw, my wife is into quilting. I don't ask what she spends on her hobby. She doesn't ask what I spend on mine)

When people ask me how many bows I have. My answer is "that my wife knOws about?" I race her to the post office and always buy the same color ilf riser. She never notices. That being said I always let her know when I sell one and generally am always coming out ahead in the end. Heck if that's my worst habit. Don't drink smoke etc.

My wife doesn’t care if I buy bows or other stuff. She buys what she wants. Neither of us are extravagant. In fact several weeks ago she said “you need to get a new 3D target out back. The old one is looking ratty. “ She can’t stand looking at a target that has seen better days when looking out the kitchen window. Who am I to argue with that ?

Unforunately, my wife has always supported my wants and purchases for my hobbies. Now I have a rack of bows I love and can't decide how to get rid of some.
Remmber in the early 1970's when I traded a varmit rifle for a whole lot of bows, both target and hunting bows, from a fellow who had a bunch of'em (Wings, Damon Howatts etc). Looking for somethting to shoot as that heavier than that 32lb '63 Tamerlane in the closet. Wasn't long after untill I gave some away, because they didn't suit me (one to wife, one to brother-in-law, one to a friend). Then I traded what was left, including the Tamerlane for a brand new target takedown to do it all (hunting, field archery, and 2-D). Was temporarily happy with that one bow for a while after that. Just had to find the right one.
If I want another bow, or some more camping gear, will have to clean off the rack now days as the money tree died.
