After following all the frankenbows, I managed to find a black bear compound for $15 at a flea market. Ordered Samick Sage limbs and did some camo work on them. I had the factory painted quiver to match. Pretty happy the way it turned out. Over all a 45#, 62" monster.

Finding a lefty was hard, but now that I see how easy it is, I may have to look for others. I still love Bear 76ers for wear and tear on the woods, but those lefties are rare too.

"62"? I thought it would be longer"
My BB with 62" sage limbs is longer. I haven't measured it but a 62" AMO string puts the brace height at about 12 or 13 inches.

That came out great. A friend threw out an old Bear compound 8 years ago when he moved. I popped out the Bear coin. Wish I knew about these Frankenbows back then. John

I will put a dyed green leather strike place and paint roller felt rest off the shelf. I put a 58", AMO 62" string on it with a 8" brace height. Seems as close to 62" actual length as I can get.

The Black Bear riser I had makes a 62" recurve with Sage limbs; I could readily switch strings between my Sage and that bow and even the nock set height was near the same. I also have one made with a similar PSE riser that is just about 62 1/2" with Sage limbs.

The Black Bear is one of my favorite platforms. Mt current favorite is a Black Bear riser with SF Premium ILF limbs bolted to it.

George, I just measured the string on my BB frankenbow with 62" Sage limbs. The string itself measures 59.25" and brings the bow to 7 13/16" brace. I also measured the distance between centers of the limb bolts and came up with 15 1/16". I don't know what a Sage riser would measure and neither do I know the correct way to measure the limb bolts. I measured from the centers of the bolts at the limb surface in a straight line.

Good job. Those Black Bear/Sage combos are great. Be careful with the quiver. I had the exact same setup as you. I don't remember exactly how I did it, but I easily sheared off the the plastic part of the quiver that slides into the slot receiver. I tried to fix the quiver a couple of times, but finally ended up tossing it. I still have the bow, but it has been converted to ILF.

Looks like the one I had by the radiused shelf. That must have been a popular setup with that quiver. I have the same one plus the sites. I tossed the bow case. Got mine off EBay for $25 but that was some years ago. Had Bob Gordon do the ILF conversation. Can’t recall what limbs I had think they were W&W? Shot great right off that shelf but after a couple all day 3D shoots of hauling it around I sold it. Those cast aluminum risers, a product of the Bear/Jennings partner realation ship, were just to heavy for me. Like I said a good shooter with a “dead in the hand” feel when shot.

Longcruise, I don't know about the difference in Sage limbs, I do know they made a Journey limb that was longer and made near a 64" bow. I can only tell you what mine was...it took a 58.5" string to get 8 1/4" brace. Could also be that the Black Bear underwent some changes as well and one riser may be a little longer from bolt to bolt. Who knows. My PSE riser is a little longer and I suspect their risers vary as well.

Ok, did some more measuring on the riser. From center of the bolts straight line is 15 1/2". The ends of the riser straight is 21" total.
The quiver is not much of any issue as I have a lot more of those bear huggers. But just that one in factory camo.
You have to love all the differences in the frankenbows as you can see from the posts. The riser is heavy, but still cool to recycle old bows.
Thanks for comments everyone.

Mark, The PSE riser is heavier than the wooden Sage riser also, but it shoots so dang good I can put up with that extra weight. I think the rigidity of those aluminum risers lend to that overall stability.

Kurt, I only sanded the end closest to the riser. It may have been 1/32" or less. I used the same bolts from the compound limbs. I also put a rubber intertube piece between the riser and limbs and tightened them centered without wiggle. After a bit of shooting, no misalignment, noise, or marks on the inside limbs. I think the heavier riser helps act like a stabilizer.

Both my frankenbows give up 5# in draw weight under what the limbs are marked. All three limbsets are Sage 35, 40, and 45. On the sage riser they are dead on but like I said, 5# under on the BB riser. I'm pretty sure that it's related to pad angle. I might play with the limb angle but it can't go too far lest the limb bolts get too far away from 90* to the limb surface.
Yesterday I was playing with a chrono and the results left me thinking that the little bit of performance to be gained from reducing the pad angles might not be worth it.
These speeds alone are not impressive, but analyze them in contrast to the arrow weights. Draw weights are from a digital scale as are the arrow weights.
35# BB frankenbow, 598 gr POC arrow, 17.08 GPP, 140.86 fps.
Same bow, 460 gr POC arrow, 13.14 GPP, 155 fps.

BigStriper, South West Archery has the longer limbs that make a 64" bow on the Black Bear riser.
