No pics. Talked with the landowner today. Said his neighbor found the sheds to the big buck I’ve been after last 3 seasons. A bout a mile away.. He must have wintered there. I’m hopeful he will return to his fall habitat though. I built a bale blind for the occasion.

Stay tuned...

Justin, keep us posted. I've enjoyed your pursuit of this buck and hopefully you can make a connection with him this fall. I've already seen a few buck growing their head gear in my part of PA.

No pic's. Well hello Justin. How its him or maybe a brotha.

One big one moves out another in its place.

Not sure what the range is for the big boys in SD, but in IN used to have a monster that was seen throughout a five mile area. He finally disappeared after 7 years.

Good luck Justin. Should be growing good within the month.

A mile isn't much in a big bucks range his range will be smaller in the nonrut

Yeah agree with 4nolz, a mile ain't far for a bign... They're all individuals, some travel more than others, but from my experience some will have different winter and summer ranges and can/will mile mile or two away... Sort of a migrate so to speak...

It has been fun getting out in the woods. Based on a couple of years of trail camera images (thank you Don Higgins) I've come to believe that I will be in the right spot at the right time this year.

The buck was on the property all the way until January 12, coming through many nights and then he stopped. Maybe deep snow caused him to head for higher ground. I'm not sure.

I have not laid eyes on the sheds yet despite some serious efforts to track them down yesterday.

I do think I may have gotten a photo of him about two weeks ago. Fairly good antler growth already but the pic was not clear enough to see exactly what is going on. I'm in his home range and probably in his core area. Narrowing down his travel pattern has taken 3 full seasons.

Patience my friends. Not every story comes with a picture. Just like not every hunt ends with a kill. Glad it doesn't. The strategy is fulfilling to me. I'm setting up for a close encounter when the time is right. The bale blind is going to get me in close for the kill this year.

Keep at it Justin. Allot of old fellows forget that the pursuit and trying different strategies is what hunting is all about. If you say that is the buck then believe it with your whole heart and proceed accordingly. Keep us posted.

I thought you mentioned the possibility of a pit blind as well for this coming season, or did the bale blind get you into the same spot?

Justin, keep posting. Enjoy reading of your pursuit. If preparation counts for anything, it's gonna happen! Best of luck.

I’m looking forward to the story as it unfolds this year.

I did dig a pit blind on the south end of the property. The buck was there are few times between Nov. 15 and 17 so I dug one just in case. On the north end of the property I have the bale blind because that is how he navigates from north to south on the property using the grassy waterway where my blind is.

I have not seen the sheds yet and now am beginning to wonder if the horns found actually were from this deer. With extra long G2 and G3 it would be hard to not talk about it.

I'm going to finish the bale blind up tomorrow and then sit back and wait and wait and wait.

Thanks for coming along!!

All good things come to those who wait. Now with that said you are seeking an animal that's like Mobey Dick maybe?

Don't pass up the others in the process if they are shooters or you might lean towards no sleep and this become your total obsession and you get laxed in your other responsibility's.

An animal can over take you I been there with white deer's they had me battered for a couple years. I had spotters and had baited animals and camera-ed them and waited and set up around their range and as hard as I went at it and drove others nuts trying to set up it just wasn't in the cards.

I got one but he wasn't the one I wanted. and then the one i really wanted he disappears. I believe he was poached or an alien got him. lol

I’m having a dry spell so if it’s brown it’s in trouble...

I don’t want to see any more big buck related posts without some type of pic??
