Looking to upgrade or replace some old gear.

What is your fav currently available deer hunting camo pattern for ground hunting?

I will primarily be hunting southern hardwoods and field edges , Id like to use a versatile camo pattern for cost reasons.

Still hard to beat Predator or ASAT in my opinion. I use Outfitter camo from Cabelas everywhere and it does a fine job. Not sure if they make it anymore though.

What Heat said. ASAT from DayOne Camo

I really don't care about the pattern. I look for two things, how pockets are set up and knee pads on the pants.

In my opinion, the old patterns are just as good as any new patterns, and actually have better contrast between lighter and darker patches than some of the new stuff. Most of mine is mix and match from pieces I got at Goodwill or on clearance at Walmart. I do have some Treebark (Crumley) that I was given this year...a jacket and hat that I will likely use this fall.

I'm ike Bowmania, I'm more interested in function when and if I buy camo.

If you can find Predator in fall gray, I believe it is still one of the best camouflage pattern out there. Thanks John

When I do wear camo, I've got some old woodland that still works great. Usually it's flannel while utilizing the shadows.

Predator spring green or Mossy Oak, shadow leaf.

Predator for sure. Fall gray is my favorite

George got me thinking. I bought this DayOne ASAT 15 years ago. It is all I wear except during gun season I wear red/black wool. This DayOne is American made designed for bowhunters. I think I got my money's worth.

My favorite pattern is sit still and be quiet.

From: Buglmin

I like how Bsdlanfs seems to disappear, especially hunting turkeys. I also love how the new Canis fits compared to others I've used. And their pants are extremely tough, with knee pads in them that were a life saver during turkey season.

ASAT is good stuff, they just need to come out with some better fitting better high performance clothing. They have no good early season hot weather clothing that works. Skre is a great pattern, and I enjoyed using it a lot last fall. They to are limited on their line, hoping they expand it soon.

I would think early season in the south, Vietnam era military surplus would be good.

I don’t always wear camouflage, but when I do…

LOL

Actually, though it’s true. I don’t always wear camouflage, but when I do you can bet that no two pieces will match.... unless you consider the right hand glove iand the left hand glove… when I even wear gloves. And even on that I’m not batting 1000.

Some of the most effective camouflage I’ve ever seen (at a moderate distance) was being worn by a Poacher Patrol in Africa. There were no patterns, no prints… they were just about three colors - tan, brown and green. No two uniforms were exactly alike; just each piece, as the garments were assembled, would be a different color from the ones touching it. So patch pockets, knee patches, collars, epaulets … Everything was a block of a solid but different color.

Absolutely no blobbing out the way that almost all of the commercial, designer camouflage does. And don’t even get me started on the “Digital” camo… The military uses it. OK, fine… But that’s because their stuff is engineered to full night vision cameras. So unless you’re hunting deer that are equipping themselves with NVG’s, there is absolutely zero benefit, other than that it looks The military uses it. OK, fine… But that’s because their stuff is engineered to fool night vision cameras/optics. So unless you’re hunting deer that are equipping themselves with NVG‘s, there is absolutely zero benefit, other than that it looks Totally Kewl.

And we all know how important THAT is!

Predator has always been one of the very few brands that seems to understand the importance of larger, open spaces in a pattern, But even they have felt it necessary to go a little more “realistic“ looking in order to compete with the designer stuff. Whatever. Maybe only after you’ve seen a 600 or 700 pound bull Elk step behind one tree and ratty-looking bush and suddenly disappear entirely does it begin to sink in that fancy patterns are not necessary. How is it that you can walk up to within 30 yards of a half-dozen cows and not even notice those great big tan bodies until one of them spots you first and her eyes bug right out of her head?

I just look for function in something that’s on the clearance rack and is available in my size… Which is not very dang much.

And frankly, if you want to get really and truly serious about disappearing? Make yourself a good Ghillie. And don’t move.

I wear a variety of camo patterns, plus plaids, and solid earth tones. But since the OP ask " Favorite camo pattern? " I have to say the frog skin camo, WWII camo, Fred Bear style camo, which were some of the names it was called through the years. All I have left of this camo is a shirt and a bucket hat.

From: Boker
Date: 01-Jun-20

I love the Fred Bear camo , wish a camo company would bring it back

From: JusPassin

Well first off, military camo is designed to fool human eyes, not wild game.

Secondly today's camo is designed to sell, not to work.

The comment about the African anti poachers squad makes the most sense.

If I could design my own it would have large, 8 to 12 inch blocks of high contrasting shades of black/tan/brown/green.

Asat and predator gray are very old patterns but so far no ones made anything better. That being said ,i don't buy camo unless mine wears out and when i do I grab whatever looks like it would work on any animal any time of the year. Last camo i bought was 20 years ago and i think its mossyoak breakup.

I hunt in a very arid area and the predominant vegetation is low mesquite, cedar and cactus with an occasional scrub oak. I like Realtree Max-1. I like the looks of it but in reality any green, grey or other muted color of clothing probably works just as well.

Ground hunting, early season tiger stripes then Winona camo, but the Bushrag ghillies has been a game changer.

As far as tree, really doesn't matter, plaid with face covering works, movement will end the hunt no matter what you wear.

It should be mentioned that finish is probably as important as color/pattern. Some of the hard/glossy artificial fabrics reflect light like a mirror.

asat is my all time favorite

From: Curtiss Cardinal

My three favorites are ASAT, Asbell wool Timber Ghost and Predator original brown. In ASAT I prefer their 3D pro vanish leafy suit. You can wear whatever you need to for the weather under it. It's so effective that you will be able to tell hunting stories no on will believe. Case in point while hunting in a corn field in Indiana I had a nice buck actually bump into me. Asbell wool Timber Ghost has a nearly magical quality at breaking up your outline and even looking like some places are closer than others in a way that makes you appear dis incorporated as so unthreatening to game animals. Predator is a good pattern early to very late system. It is effective camouflage.

From: Desperado

I may be admittedly minded but IMHO there are only 2 great camo patterns...ASAT and the original Jim Crumley's Treebark.Like I said.... I'm narrow minded but honest !!! Be safe !!! Des

Mark me down for ASAT. I have a lot of items, but the 3D leafy suit is the essential and must-have first item.
