I measured my string on my 58 inch bow and it was just under 54 7/8. That measurement is with the string twisted to the brace height I shoot it at which is on the higher end of the recommended BH. So in ordering a new, what length would you all recommend for the new string? My plan was just to order a 54 7/8 inch string. The bow is a 58 static River Runner.

Are you ordering a stock string or having it made?

That measurement is within the AMO specifications for aan AMO 58" string.

If Dacron B, then allow about an inch more for stretch. If low stretch, you can pretty well order 54 7/8. That has been my experience anyway.

No I am going to have one made, maybe a Ten Ring or SBD.

Tell them what you want and how you have the string twisted. They will make it to fit.

Fore ME a 58” bow I order a 55” string. Most string makers prestretch their made strings to this length, Ask when ordering, You have all ready measured the string off the bow, at your brace ht. They should ask you for this length also. Good Luck

Order it from Stilldub. Give him you bow and it's specs and he will send you what you need.

Kansasclipper, you mentioned the measurement while on the bow. I ask for the measurement off the bow . . .

Set the string at the braceheight you want, take it off the bow, hook in one a sall nail, pull tight and with the other loop closed, take the measurement. Then tell the stringmaker that and they should be able to do that.

And as George stated, this is for a "non-stretch" material string. A Dacron string will need to be shorter to allow for the elasticity of the material.

I pre-stretch mine so that it will have minimal movement once put on the bow.

Just let them know your current strings length at brace and any of the guys mentioned will be able to get you the length you need.

Stringmaker I did measured the string off the bow hooked on a nail. I just thought that was a given in measuring a bow string.

Kansasclipper, if you order from me, just give me the exact length that you came up with as you just described. I will build a new one to match it exactly.

I have ordered many strings from Allen. He will also make the proper loop size which on my Ace Recurves is key as they have small Tips Allen can guide you in loop measurements. Best strings I’ve ever had.

Allen Shafer at Ten-Ring has made many strings for me and hits length every time. I also agree with Gator1 about the loop size...he made large loops for a BP H-52 and they fit perfectly, as well as small loops for a 1964 RWH.

X2 what Pdiddly says. Allen at Ten Ring builds a great string.
