I have a Fred Bear Takedown Recurve Bow I’ve had a good 20 to 25 years. It has a sliver-like delamination on its upper limb. Looking for advice on how to repair it so I can continue to shoot it without it getting worse. Any suggestions?

Super glue under the lifting strip, tape in place and then sand with very fine paper. Pretty common on bows that have been banged against a car door or the like.

I’ve done a few before and agree with westrayer. I would suggest starting with something like loctite 420 or bob smith super thin super glue (which I’ve found cheaper and easier to find). They are water thin and will wick into crevices. Any time I’m refinishing an old bow with stress lines in the glass I’ll wick a little in there just in case. Then if there’s still a gap I’d move on to a regular ca glue/gel. You can learn a lot about old bow repair from the books by Rick Rappe, who at least used to be a member here (I haven’t been around in a while, not sure if he still posts).

Looks like the sliver has also been snapped off. You'd likely need to trap the back and do all the other edges to match.

Is it really starting to delaminate or just the glass itself? Looks to me like just a glass sliver hat peeled back. If you get it sealed well it likely won't be an issue at all. Can't really see if there is any separation starting between the glass and wood lams, but if there is, that's more critical of course.

The suggestions of how to fix it are valid IF it isn't actually dominating, meaning the layers are separating. If its delaminating, it's going to come apart. Maybe not today, and maybe not tomorrow.

The biggest danger you have if you peeked off the piece of glass is damaging the wood lamination in the future.

If there's glass under the sliver its just a sliver in the glass from being banged or something. If there's wood under the sliver its delamming.

My experience using steelwool starts a lot of that glass splinter. Shut it down with superglue then sand it just enough so it don't catch on things.

Just sanding sponge it gone

I had that happen years ago on a bow I made.,I sanded it out.,
