Been shooting three 5" parabolics for years . I know own a jig capable of doing four fletch . Will four three inch shield cut be enough to stabilize my 28" fir arrows from my 50 to 55 lb. recurves ?

Absolutely.

3 four inch would do it too.

Hookman , i thought about that but , i only have a three inch chopper . Might experiment with three , three inch .

I have been shooting four 3" para's. They fly great and they are very quiet. Nice to have a chopper and make your own.

I been shooting 4x3"s feathers for 25 yrs. Work great!

Fletching arrows with 3 feathers of various sizes isn't new. I would suggest that the vast majority of animals and people who have been killed with arrows were killed with arrows that had 3 feathers on them.

But that being the case, rather than rely on the opinion of others why not make up several different configurations and see what you think works best ?

If your bow is reasonably well tuned, 3X3 should be plenty, especially with field points.

You must have some bare shafts on hand, or you wouldn’t be thinking about fletching them, right?

Go have some fun!

I have been shooting two five inch feathers. They fly straight. Going to try four inch next.

Four fletch of any size are slower and louder. A bare shaft will fly straight if your tuned. I've been shooting 3 two inch for about 10 years.

I'm pretty sure one of the Wensel brothers shoots 4 fletch and I'm pretty sure they know a few things about killing game and shooting bows.

Experiment and figure out what works best for you. Enjoy and happy shooting!

I have found that 4 smaller feathers is less affected by wind that 3 larger feathers, even if the total length or area are similar. I also like AAE nocks, and they don't have indexers, so 4 fletch is great there.

What Matt B said was proven years ago by C R Learn. And like he says you won’t be looking at the arrow or the nock when you shoot.

Absolutely but it is a waste of feathers, slower, and more noise. I conserve my turkey feathers by shooting 2 fletch or 3 X 3" >>>---->Ken

Experiment for yourself. Find out what you like and don't care what anyone else thinks.

I am fooling with 4 3" parabolic at 60x120 for some 3D arrows that require 12" of feather for the class. So far they are working great. I just need to max tune the shafts for length to get the speed I am looking for.

This set up does not seem to make much noise at all according to my wife. And adds about another 1 fps to my arrow..... compared to 3 5"

If you shoot lefty, four fletch and 3 under, you are living in the center of the universe,,,,, I love 4 fletch because it looks so cool

I know Roger Rothhaar shoot 4 fletch because of the ease of loading an arrow and the Snuffer head he shot. I am planning to run Grizzly Instinct or VPA 190/200 grain heads. Mike Mitten also runs big 4 fletch on his heavy bows. I shoot 66-71# so think four fletch will work.

Mike Mitten I assure you lives in the center of life..... love that guy

Yes I have several sets of 4 fletch low profile sheild cuts that I bought off other fellows and they shoot great. I don't use over 160 weith up front so not sure what else they might fly like but can't see that it would matter much.

Never saw any real difference in 3 than 4 fletch myself that I would say ok I now want 4 fletch other than for a change up in looks for me.

Roger Rothhaar shot four fletch. I believe it was in one of his articles or books, he said he used it because he could put the arrow on the bowstring with out looking down at the arrow. I got the picture of the fletching Roger Rothhaar uses from the Master of the Barebow Vol. 1 DVD where he explains about the bows and arrows he uses.

Do it if you like who cares what anyone else thinks it does look pretty cool

Enjoy shooting & the time spent doing it,try the 4 fletch.

From: George D. Stout

It's a choice, nothing more nothing less. If the bow is tuned, any choice will work with broadheads too. I've shot all manner of fletching over the years and never saw one much better or worse than another. They look cool and that may be important too.

Yep,and for me with the cost of feathers if you use 3 fletch instead of four you get to fletch one more arrow for the same price. Just another personal choice. Each to their own.

Four fletch may be a benefit with heavy arrows and heads. Mike is a good guy to talk with for sure.

check out tradlab. several fletch variations tested.

That is the reason i decided to go 4 fletch . I have hundreds of feathers left over that are too short to cut another 5 incher out of ."my feather supply has now greatly multiplied".

From: Bassman Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member
Date: 22-May-20

So be it.

From: GF
Date: 22-May-20

Lot of folks mentioning that they don’t have to look at the nock/arrow with 4....

OK, but....

1 - Indexed nocks

And

2 - Doesn’t matter anyway, really. Some guys actually prefer cock-in.

So JMO, it’s like Nemo said - shoot what you like; this is supposed to be fun.
