I've used Saunders NPV on aluminum and carbon shafts without issue forever, it seems. I'm now experimenting with some Duco over polycrylic finish over rattle can paint. I understand it will work better over the water- based finish. So... how long do I need to let it set before removing the clamps?

I give the NPV about 30 minutes, but don't have a clue about the Duco.

I give it at least 15 minutes.

My old fletching routine was start at the beginning of a tv show and add a feather each commercial break.

20 minutes

Frankly I wouldn't use Duco on aluminum at all, even coated with Polycrylic. It sure works well on wood, but it also usually goes through the base coat if that coat is thin....like spray paint. If it gets through to the aluminum, the feathers likely won't stay adhered. That has been my experience, but you can sure try it. I let them stand about ten minutes with wood shafts. I use Saunders NPV or Fletchtite on aluminum.

I have the same opinion as George. I've had problems with Duco on aluminums, even with crown dip and use Saunders NPV almost all the time.

Like above, don't use it on aluminum. I use it on carbon and set a kitchen timer for 15 minutes. That's on bare carbon.

I used fletch title on aluminum, duco for wood.15 minutes a fletch. I had somebody talk me into fletching tape. Speeds up the process and works well.

With the price of feathers these days I wouldn’t risk using Duco. That and Duco isn’t as cheap or available as it used to be.

Online prices of Duco are relatively high. I went to our local hardware store, here in our little town, an found it for $2.69 for the same size tube. And yes...it is the same Duco cement.

Duco got hard to find around here so I started using Loctite 60 sec. Universal Glue. Absolutely zero problems with it.

I've never been a fan of using Duco on feathers. NPV or Fletch- tite have always worked fine on aluminum.

Duco at the Dollar stores and its cheap.

Unfortunately there have been several formula changes that Duco has had to make to conform with EPA standards, that has lessened its effectiveness. I started using it in the early 1950's and use it until I sold my arrow business last year. That being said aluminum arrows is what prompted Bohning to develop Flech-tite. No matter what you did Duco was not suited to fletching aluminum arrows.

Thanks for all the advice. My oldest son shot an Osceola turkey this spring and wanted me to process the feathers and fletch up some arrows for his 58# Bear T/D.

Rust-Oleum, a few rings with Testors, then polycrylic and the Duco seems to have done well. I guess time will tell.

Here in Pa Family Dollar does not sell it any more they used to .

I am old fashioned. I use fletch tight on my arrows. Never had a problem with it. But I must say the stuff in the white tube with red lettering was better than the silver tube stuff.

Nice looking arrows in that pic

Family Dollar in NC does not sell it anymore. Now I go to eBay. Just had 6 tubes delivered.

That said, I do not use it on aluminum, crown painted or not.

Fletch-Tite Platinum.
