Primarily concerned with your dislikes.about the hammock seat? Obviously asking folks who have used one before.. Thanks in advance..

I like it. Very light and easy to set up and provides a good bit of mobility. The fabric is a bit stiff and noisy when it's new, but quiets down with some use.

agree with Orion

nice EZ light carry ,reasonably comfortable , once figure out how to hang and get pole right for you not bad

Have a Waldrop pack seat that I tend to use a little more though

Thanks Orion.. How about noise against the tree bark if you had to swivel to shoot behind you?

Thanks Andy Man, seems it would be a decent camp chair as well..

I found it to be noisy and not all that comfortable. I made up several Torges Seats some with padded swivel seats, some with simple padded seats. I find them almost as easy to stuff in or strap onto a pack. Quieter and more comfortable.

I love mine. Have fallen asleep a few times. Lol. Agree with the above.

A little noisy setting up. Mine is not very comfortable. I’ve tried different heights and angles and still feels like I’m using my legs to keep me positioned. I thought it would be more comfortable and have stopped using mine most of the time.

I really like my hammock seat. So much so that I bought 2 more in case they quit making them. I also have grandsons that may need them when they get older. Besides being quite comfortable I like the fact that I can adjust the height so I can go from sitting to standing easily.

I think they are great, portable seats. I'd recommend spending time learning how to set it up so it's comfortable for you before going on a hunt.

Biggest variable I struggled with is how high up the tree do you put the strap. The answer is it all depends on what you find a comfortable weight distribution.

My first attempts had my backside below my knees when sitting in the seat. Somewhat comfortable but not for long sits. I also tried to turn side to side and shoot a bow from the positions. Just did not feel right to me. Essentially all the weight was on my butt and shifting weight from this position caused more upper body movement than I thought I could get away with when deer were present.

I then raised the strap so my backside was at knee level or a little higher. Pole position was adjusted so I was sitting upright like I do in a chair at the dinner table. I found with this position I could keep some of my weight on my feet if I sat fully erect. This made it easier to move side to side and much more comfortable, for me, to shoot a bow. If I wanted to fully relax, I shifted the weight from my feet to my backside like I might sit in a recliner.

Learn how to set it up for you, and I think you will like it.

I agree 100% with painter !!!

Different opinions from different folks.

I love mine and either it or my Waldrop pack seat go with me on every hunt. Often times both when I son is with me and we alternate who sits in which one. He falls asleep quicker in the hammock seat.

I used one last fall and really like it..comfortable and quiet and easy to pack

George Vernon's advice is excellent. Learn to set it up in different situations before you go hunting.

Getting the height correct is very important.

Didn't like the carrying method, so I sewed a nylon belt horizontally to the carrying bag, with quick release buckle. It now carries nicely at the base of my back and you just hardly notice it.

I really like the chair and it's the one that I use the most often. It is super comfortable and very light weight. The older I get the more I appreciate easy. LOL!

Never heard of the hammock seat until this thread. I checked it out on you tube. I like what I saw. I don't have to worry about the legs from my little stool sinking down too low in the ground especially when wet.

No way under the sun I'd stand there and fiddle with that chinsy thing. I'm a Waldrop fan all the way!!

I have both the Hammock and Waldrop

Definately like the Waldrop the best

Hammock good for long walks but the Waldrop so light not a real hindrance

Interesting. I had never heard of it either till I just watched the video.

Isn't a hammock seat the things guys use in a tree?!

Love mine, easy and quick set up and super lite to carry. Hard to beat. Yes you can spend 300 on a Waldrop seat or spend 45 on a hammock seat.

Doc, I think you’re thinking of the tree saddle.

FYI...in the Oct/Nov 2017 edition of TBM, there is an article on how to make a duffle bag seat, which is basically a hammock seat. Although I've not tried it, it seems the canvass duffle bag material should be less noisy.

I like the Hammock, i don't think its noisy when sitting in it , Fell asleep many a time in it, with no ill effects on my old bones, very light, I'm still interested in the Waldrop seat tho, just for my own curiosity, If its as easy to carry in, set up as the Hammock, and more comfy , ,nothin wrong with more options

My Hammock seat came with a camo material with a black, rubber like coating on the seating surface. When new, it reminded me of when years ago I would try on a new pair of Levi's. Stiff and uncomfortable. So one would wash the Levi's and they became softer. I hung the Hammock seat on a fence for a couple of weeks and sprayed it with water several times. I also rolled and unrolled it. Softened up to the point where noise is not a problem. I did notice when sitting upright with my backside at or above the level of my knees, there is less rubbing between my outer layer of clothes and the seating surface.

I like swivel seats to be able to silently turn and look around since I seem to be able to always be on the wrong side of the tree when a deer approaches. My Waldrop seat has no swivel. The freedom of side to side movement with the Hammock comes close to swivel capability.
