I wonder if Dan Quillian’s Archery Traditions instructional shooting video has been posted online already or if it’s even in the public domain yet? These old VHS tapes won’t last forever & I’d hate to see this one lost to traditional archery history. I never met Dan Quillian in person but he seemed like an interesting, plain spoken, down to earth kind of guy.

I believe that’s his Gull longbow in the cover photo, but he sets up and shoots a Longhunter longbow in the video.

On eo fmy fondest memories is of an afternoon spent with Dan Quillian and a bunch of other guys on the last day of an AMO show years ago.
He knew more than anybody I ever met about wood arrows, was using low stretch strings before they were a "thing", and had really strong opinions about bows and most other things.

About 25 years ago I bought a Canebrake which I still have....its in near perfect condition and is marked 39lbs at 26" which makes for about 43-44 lbs at my draw length.....lightning fast, and oh so smooth....

He was a nice fella, we had several good conversations back in the day. I bought a Canebrake and a Longhunter, probably one of the first Canebrakes ever shipped. I called him up and ordered it the day I saw the first ad. It took several months to get it. I always wanted a Patriot and a bamboo Longhunter, but never did get either. I remember watching the video too, I don't know what ever happened to it. He made his nock point out of dental tape and was big on having a "deep hook" on the string. I still have a Canebrake. Anyone out there know roughly how many of those were made???

I met him once at an outdoor show, he really knew his stuff and was a bit cantankerous, he did a lot for archery and getting bow season started in the early days. I think he started producing the first tree stands, it might have been the Baker suicide stand.
His video is crude by today's standards but was special back in the day when there was so little information for many of us just starting out as trad archers.
