Well, they won’t leave so I keep shooting them. I checked a field down on the other end of my dirt road after work last night and there they were. Again. The farmers are putting peanuts and corn in the ground late this year because of all the rain. And the pigs root it all back up at night. I was tired and my back hurt a little bit but I parked my truck, got on my bike and pedaled. I waited in the dark for them to make noise so I could get a fix on them. Check. I consulted the wind to make sure we were still friends. Check. All good. I turned on the green light, and nocked an arrow and made a bee line toward the group. I picked out the biggest of the group and closed to about 6 yards. I let go, nocturnal nock came on, shot looks perfect, pigs scatter like a covey of quail, whippoorwills still singing- all the commotion didn’t seem to bother them. And I turn the light off to better see my nock which moves quickly to a distance of sixty yards then comes to rest. Another big ole stinky boar. Martin X200- 2018 arrow, bear razorhead with 75gr steel adapter. I followed suggestions for taking pictures. I hope everyone is happy with the results. :)

Brother you are as bad on hogs as a Plague. AND 6 yards.. REALLY?? Did you wait to smell the difference between mature and not. That's good stuff. Congrats.

So what do you do with them? The way everyone talks about how bad they smell I wouldn't think they'd be too tasty. I don't even like store bought unless it's bacon.

Yessir good job Dendy.

Just passin- opinions differ widely. I like sows and smaller boars. A boar that stinks, stinks. You can’t unstink a rank hog. Some people try. Soak it, salt it, spice it up in sausage. Whatever. A stinky hog will make stinky sausage. Some people eat it. I won’t. There are always people who want a pig. I take the ones I want to keep to a local boy who processes deer. He does pigs for me. The ones I don’t want I take to a place we call “newtown”. I drag the pig off the tailgate and give it to whomever wants it. Fights have broken out over who gets the Pig. My neighbor wants all of the pigs gone. I’ll never get rid of them all. Far from it. But I’m making an effort and he’s happy with that.

Looks like you helping with the hog problem.

Hogs are here to stay sadly. Texas saying is “shoot all the pigs you see and half the ones you don’t “ talk about a renewable resource!!!

Bones- I was 250yds downwind of them when I started toward them. I smelled them the whole way. You know the smell. And if you’re stalking pigs and you stop smelling it suddenly, you might as well get your judo out. You can start shooting pine cones now because the wind shifted- YOU got smelled- and you are by yourself. I’m not telling you anything new.
