On the way home from work last night I pulled into a field and turned the truck off. In about two minutes I heard what I was there for. A loud squeal. I got the wind right and went toward the sound. There was a group of about 20 pigs. I slipped up on one of the bigger sows. Hunting them with this geeen light is something else. I always expect them to see me and they never do. When the sow quartered I shot her at about 10 yards. She she went maybe thirty yards before my lighted nock layed still. I went in mid rid and hit the off side shoulder and tore up everything in between. 2018 and a razorhead.

Nice hog.

I'm guessing your pics are from an iphone. Mine do that too. No rhyme or reason that I can tell either. What I do is save it to my desktop. If it looks right, I post it. If not, I open it and rotate it until it is right. Then I save it, post it, and delete it off my desktop. You can't trust how it looks on the phone even on the computer, but sourced from the phone.

the light..... it's a Sniper Light. LED- I bought it from Big Jim some years ago. It's available in red also. I found red to spook pigs pretty often. Green does not--- in my experience, anyway. The way I affix it to the bow is pretty simple. I cut a length of pipe insulation to cushion the light against the bow. I then secure the light on the riser just below my hand with zip ties. I use an "X" pattern. This way I can adjust the beam of light by tightening the zip ties. tightening the top tie brings the beam down, the bottom one moves the light up. It's important that the beam of light be pretty much where you are looking at any given distance because regardless of what you think, YOU WILL SHOOT WHERE THE BEAM OF LIGHT IS MOST CONCENTRATED. So I want the beam centered at about 12-15 yards. That works best for me. It's unreal how well the green light works. Why pigs can't detect it, I don't know. I do know this- you MUST keep the light out in front of yourself. if you allow the light to illuminate any part of your person, like your legs- The pigs can see that. And you will be by yourself in short order.

People ask me- Have you ever ben charged by a pig? My answer has always been "no". They might run toward me after being shot but never have I experienced an all out charge. Until recently--- pigs react differently at night. In the daylight they can clearly identify me as human, and will divert their charge once they realize this. The other night I shot a pretty big boar- solidly behind the shoulder at less than 10 yards. To my surprise he began popping his teeth and lowered his head and came directly towards me very aggressively. I stepped back and he missed me the first pass then HE TURNED AROUND AND CHARGED ME AGAIN! I don't think he knew what I was- only that something there had caused him some problems. There was a cattle supplement tank in the pasture and I kept that in between the hog and myself. I was laughing but concerned at the same time. In a few seconds the pigs legs gave out and he made a dash for the edge of the field. I was relieved that it was over and I couldn't believe that had just happened. I wonder how that would've ended up if the cattle tank had not been there. I've never carried a firearm during my hog hunts. It might be time I start.

In WV we would be in jail for hunting after dark. Unless with a gun and for yotes or foxes. The Game officer would not believe we were not hunting deer

I've had just the opposite results with light colors. I've had many more pigs spook with the green light than with the red light. I started out with green but am now using the red light. The buddies I hunt with have also gone to red.

The only time I like green is when I'm using a light mounted on a feeder. I use a motion activated light that comes on gradually.

By the way, nice pig. congrats.

I missed this one, congrats on the sow as well. My brother has told me for a couple years I need to get a green light. You are definitely giving a strong argument for it.. :-D

Good Job Dendy!

I have used green lights exclusively, but lately have been using red. Sometimes the pigs know.. sometimes they don't and I don't know why.

I hunt them exclusively over feeders. My hog lease is too thick to do too much stalking and since it's an hour away, feeders make it work for me.

When a single pig comes in, the light seems to spook them. When a heard comes in, they seem to handle it better. Now there is exceptions to everything and I think that a single hog hears the click of the remote switch. A group of hogs making a bunch of crunching noise doesn't seem to hear it. At least that is my take on it. I have since purchased a silent switch light and low and behold, the pigs started coming in the daylight! BigJim

The first time hunting with the green light Bert Sullivan was standing right beside me with a red light on his bow. We shot side by side with no concern to the pigs. I will say this about the red and green light, I can see further out with the green light and that makes a big difference to me in open fields.

Not to take anything away from Sawtooth, as he is obivously an accomplished hog hunter and I would gladly share a camp with him. I copied this from the website "Hog hunting for Beginners" It may be helpful for those that are just starting hog Hunting

"Which Is Better? Red Or Green Light?

You want the short answer? Red. However, please allow me to get all science-y on you again so I can explain why. And just because red is the better light, does not mean you can’t use green. I’ve used green lights once or twice on a hog and it never ran off. Continuing from the previous section, light wavelengths can be measured in nanometers (nm). As I have already mentioned, the higher the wavelengths, the harder for the hogs to see the color. Hogs start to go colorblind when the wavelength reaches 520 nm to 540 nm. This is the range that is considered the core of the “true green” light color range. Most green lights advertised for hunting start at 540 nm wavelength. Red hunting lights are being manufactured at 620 nm wavelength and greater. As you can see, it is almost 100 nm more than the green light wavelength, making it the more viable option for hunting hogs in the dark.

I understand that amateur and professional hog hunters may disagree with my findings based on their own experiences. That’s fine. Some recommend not using any lights at all because any type of light will scare the hogs away. Since most of you reading this are inexperienced hunters (hence the website name), I want you to be as prepared as possible when going to hunt hogs. Unlike a lot of hog hunters who have their own land and have the freedom to come and go as they please while experimenting with different light colors, some of us do not have that opportunity. If you’re like me and you only go hog hunting a few times a year, you want to make sure that the seldom opportunity you have to bag a hog doesn’t go to waste. Use a red light.

Hogwash!lol Could be the quality of the light you buy. I have had many pigs actually come to my green light and shoot them at just a few yards from me. Both red and green and even white will work. Will they work everytime, no. Wind and sound will still bust your stalk. A full moon will bust you. I think green works best for filming too.

Sawtooth, if its working for you, no need to change. I can only report what has worked best for me. I started hog hunting in Texas about 20 years ago. I normally schedule my hog hunts in Texas under a full moon, and shoot a lot of my hogs under moonlight without turning my light on. I've seen hogs spook under every color of light I've tried.

From: Phil/VA
Date: 07-May-20

Wolfskin, I use what is arguably, some of the best lights on the market. I've talked extensively with the owner and he agrees that red is the best color. The particular light I use is available in white, red, and green. It uses interchangeable bulbs rather than lenses. Interchangeable bulbs are much superior to interchangeable lenses. I can see better with the green lights and would use them except that I have discovered that the red is superior for hunting.

Also hunting in Texas. I could never keep any kind of light on a pig like that. I used a sensitive touch switch, drew and anchored before touching light. If hog was in good position great,if not let off the light for a few seconds then try again. Most of the time I had to shoot rather quick. The hogs were hard hunted in the area & that may have made the difference. They wouldn't stand for a light on them very long. Seldom ever seen one in the daytime. >>>>-----> Ken
