When flipping the tip on a osage self longbow. What is the rule 1. how many inches do you bend 2. 80 degrees 90 degrees??

I don’t know if there are any rules. I think it’s probably more personal preference. I started out with longer sharper curves. I have come to prefer shorter less aggressive curves. I don’t think they have to be long or terribly aggressive to do their intended job. I think it makes string alignment easier and helps use more of your limb for bending. I also like the way they look and not quite as difficult to string.

No rules, but as Bjrogg said to much of a good thing can be a detriment.

There's a difference between flipping tips and recurves in my unimportant book. Flipping them is just kicking em up a bit,but the string isn't contacting the belly at brace. A recurve the string contacts the belly at brace. So what exactly do you want? I've done both and every length and angles possible. I'm not a fan of small kinked flipped tips that aren't touching at brace. If I'm gonna do it I go full blown 90 degree static tips for the last 4-5" of tip pending on the bows stats(length, widht, design ext..).

I have found it difficult to put more than 2" reflex in the last 8-9" and not get excessive set. It depends on your design. Arvin

The origins of rule of thumb was that when you beat your wife with a stick it must be no thicker than your thumb.Thank God that was only in medieval times. So why does my wife give me a smack up the side of my head every day and call me a dirty old man? We actually love each dearly and she is only having a bit of fun I wish I could shoot as good as she can.I am keeping her cause she's a winner. Osr 144
