No place for a coin ? Then I'd say it's a 1958 because 1959, 1960, 1961, 1966, 1967, 1969, and 1970 all had coins.
Bear Alaskan with leather grip 1958 to 1961.
Bear Alaskan with no leather grip 1966 to 1970.

I have a 1959 or 60 double shelf Bear Alaskan, with black and orange glass. My question is, even though they had double shelves, was the riser cut out more on one side than the other for a site window?.

Book doesnt say. It does say the dual shelf black and orange was known as the Holloween Alaskan, and is most desirable to collectors. Copper or nickel coins for 59, alum for 60.
