Anyone won’t shoot a dual shelf longbow?

How makes a good one? Thoughts on them? Pics?

They have been around a long time. This is my brother’s from about 57 or 58 . He never took a deer but we were hell on carp in the spring.

Shot a couple 7 lakes dual shelf's, I liked them. Seems I like all his bows tho. Don't think he lists it as an option on his website, but he does offer it.

I'd like a Bear Halloween bow.

Any bow without a shelf is a dual shelf. I have a couple that I shoot frequently from the 1940's through modern.

The trick is to find a dual shelf cut to center.

My only worry is the strength of the raiser.

Steve Turay of Northern Mist has been known to make dual shelf bows. If you can make it to Kalamazoo this coming weekend, you can talk to him about it.

I shoot both right and left handed and I spent a few years finding a 1956 Kodiak, the bow my Dad carried when I was born. I finally found one, 57# like my Dad's , and the serial number begins with my Dad's intitials. It was my primary bow this past fall and actually switched from one hand to the other to get a shot on a deer that came from the direction I didn't plan...no unnecessary movement. I dont notice any difference in accuracy from a center shot bow with the correct spine arrows and its the quitest bow I own.

I can make a dual shelf. If you are at Kalamazoo this weekend stop by my booth, Benoit Bows. Thanks, Ryan

Thanks gentlemen,

I am right hand but have been shooting left hand for several years. I shot Right hand before that, I made the switch due to eye dominance. I have recently started playing around with right hand bows again and I can shoot both ways fairly accurate.

My Lh will more than likely always be my primary shooting side because it’s my dominant eye but it’s also a lot clearer/stronger than my right eye but it be nice to have the option of Rh as well.

I recently sold a dual shelf kodiak wish Id have hung into it.

Boker, most of those old bows were tested unlike anything we do today, and they were basically tortured to see what they would take. I wouldn't worry about the riser 'taking it'. They didn't survive all this time by being fragile. ;)))

The only dual shelf bow I have shot is an older Bear Polar. My first was a 60# that I really liked, and bought cheap. It had a lot of mis-use before I got it and it eventually came apart. My second Polar is 41# I believe and lots of fun. I do a lot left handed, but started shooting bows right and have not yet figured out the alignment issue with the right arm forward. :-D The dual Shelf Kodiak would most likely be a step up from what I shoot, but the old one bows still have their place.

I suppose that there would never be enough market to develop & sell a dual shelf (let alone no-shelf) riser for ILF limbs (or any other species of interchangeable limbs). I love my Kodiaks, Grizzlys, Polars, and Cubs- but would really like at least one bow that is not a vintage antique.

I do have one, an Asiatic (Mariner Ming 5, great bow!) that is a favorite, but I also shoot & love the classic American bows, the 1954, 55, & 56 Kodiaks my favorites.
