I crest my carbons with krylon (or other) spray paint. Then turn with a drill and use sharpie markers for circles of different width. Looks good but tends to smear even after days of drying. Question: Any spray covering you have used and can verify woudl help keep this from happening?? And of course it has to be compatible with super glue when putting on the feathers following cresting. thanks mg

Matt I and many others have been using Minwax water base poly. Use a Crestor or drill whatever to paint it on.

Deft (sp) works well. For arrows a can would go a long way. Been around for years. Dries even.

X2 on the waterbased Polycrillic. I use a foam brush. Very lite coat otherwise you get bubbles. A couple coats is all I do.

My bad on the Deft, it's better for indoor use, good product but probably wouldn't work well for arrows.

Try using paint markers instead of sharpies

Another Polycryllic user here. Spray-on for me, works well. The regular oil-based Min-wax spray has also worked well, but seems to "yellow" a bit over time and dulls the cap. Don't really notice when standing alone, but beside another arrow I can tell the difference. Polycryllic for me from now on.
