Who is making a good quality flemish twist skinny string these days? Rick Barbee is who I used to get to make all mine and his were awesome. Looking fr something comparable. Anybody have any recommendations?

Ive heard great things about Ten Ring Strings. A buddy uses one and it is nicely made. The gentleman that makes them even serves them according to the nocks you are using.

10 Rings or SBD. Both great strings IMO.

SBD strings. My recurve is quiet as a longbow.

Ten Ring doesn't make skinny, but might if you ask I suppose. His usual is a 22 strand. Makes the best strings out there and like said, serves according to what nocks you're using.

Ten Ring uses Mercury which is the thinnest material available. 22 strands gives a finished diameter that is thinner than 12 strands of other materials. Alan and Mercury are both top notch.

Ten Rings are good strings too.

What do you mean by "skinny". They don't get any skinnier than SBD strings which are great. Whisper Strings from Bear Paw are great as well, but I'm not sure whether they are classified as "skinny" or not.

SteveBNY. You're also a string maker aren't you?

From: Pdiddly

The reason I ask, Steve, is I think it is commendable that you recognized Alan Shafer's ability. Pretty cool!

Ten Ring strings are really well made. I have over a dozen on various bows.

Cameron Root also makes a good string. Not sure how many Flemish he is making as he seems to be focused on high quality endless loop that perform extremely well.

Skinny is mainly about less weight, and archers have finally figured out you don't need really fat strings when the tensile strength of each strand is well over a hundred pounds. Less weight moves quicker and less weight moved is quieter and easier to silence. Other than that, there is little advantage....but what you get is plenty advantageous to better performance overall.

To add to that, performance is not just speed like 95% of archers think it is. It's about overall quality of operation including quietness, less vibration on the shot and a more stable platform to release an arrow. I don't need numbers or opinions to know that mine shoot much better with low strand count strings, and that is with any material...including the venerable Dacron materials. If you have to ask what the advantages are, then you reallly haven't given them a good try.

SteveBNY is a good guy. He never degrades or posts in a non professional manner about another stringmaker that I have ever seen.

Thanks to you all for the recommendations. I really should have said a quality fast flight string instead of skinny string. I have tried a few different ones but Rick Barbees are still the best I have used. I was looking mainly for that kind of quality. I never had to reset my brace height with his, which tells me they were stretched sufficiently. Also they were always super quiet.

I have one from Bayou Traditional Archery, Longville, LA, a 15 strand Fury with 24 strands in the loops. It is a skinny profile and a great string. I got this string in a giveaway so really can't talk of the cost or time to get one.

Stringmaker is where I get my strings now. Michael is a great guy and fast turn around. He will make whatever ya want. And pricing is good as well.

Cameron Root is a very good Flemish twist stringmaker, but he will only build the best strings possible. For the Bloodline 99 material he uses that means endless loop.

I only have one so far but it immediately became my favourite string ever.

Allen makes very nice strings. And Brandon Stahl, when he made them, as well.

SteveB, thanks! Plenty of good string builders out there. Steve is one of the best also. Each seems to offer something a little different. It doesn't hurt to contact a builder and ask a few questions before ordering.

We're truly blessed to have a group of of talented, honest, humble and helpful stringmakers that we can rely on to build a QUALITY string.

All class acts as they demonstrated on this thread. All of them have a large investment in equipment and all of them learned to use it to its fullest potential before they sold a string. They're prowess is recognized and I know they all share ideas to optimize the quality of what they do.

You have a bow and arrow and a string...the string optimizes the potential of the bow and you don't realize what a difference a excellent string makes until you use one.

Thanks to all of you!
