Mine is a disaster. I still haven't cleaned up from my elk trip. My deer hunting gear is everywhere. There's about 100 osage staves that need cleaned up and sealed. Oh, I almost forgot the deer skulls that I'm cleaning. And my wife reminds me daily that there's not enough room to park her car in there and winter is almost here.

Good thread. It doesn't matter what their passion is, I really enjoy looking at pictures of the shops of other craftsmen and handymen and would happily spend a day talking with them about their craft. A Craftsman's Legacy is a good show for that by the way.

Geeze Phil. I hope nothing of value got seriously damaged. I have a big set of shelves with a bunch of wood, tools, and stuff on it. If it fell over, I'd have a real problem. I think I anchored it to the wall, but don't remember for sure. I'm going to check when I get home.

My shop isn't finished, but far enough along that I can work on stuff. I'll take a picture or two when I get home.

There's an old saying, "how can you tell if a woodworker knows what he's doing??" the answer: "when he has a jointer as wide as his planer!!" As you can see, I don't know what I am doing...I have got to get a 12" jointer soon....6"'s is just not cutting it. I do have a router sled for the big stuff though.

Mine usually as onions drying, shelves of preserves, open rafters with hand hewn logs (built in 1898) and various critters peering down from the nooks and crannies above. My side of the hovel, or as I call it, my man cellar, has a work bench and various nails pounded into the ceiling beams to hang stuff so I can't find it later. Nice shops guys, but I fear I'm not in that organized group. ;)

Jeff I really want to build a work bench just like yours. If you have any plans or a build along in the works I'd love to see it.

My shop is a farm shop. It's a nice one but it's really a mess right now. It's hard enough just to keep shoveling out all the mud that gets drug in with every project and my supplies ( everyone else calls it junk) could probably be a bit more organized. Maybe in a month or so I can get at some fun shop work.

nocklow, I'm guessing you meant me, destroy, lol...

That's a 17' 3" expedition canoe called a Northwind, plans are from Jemwatercraft. The design is more or less a copy of the legendary Kruger Seawind for strip building. If you're not familiar with Vernan Kruger Google him and you can learn about his history and accomplishments. Amazing guy for sure.

I built it for multi-day coastal paddling trips to hunt a few WMA's that have coastal access here in Fl and to also compete in Watertribe events.

I posted a lot of the start to finish build pics here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/155383202@N07/sets/72157690391442752/

Brian, that's a big coon. Good job on the fox. They can be tricky to catch, but they were my favorite critter to trap. I even raised different colors of ranch fox for several years, and had some tame ones that played with our dogs. Had a tame raccoon too. I see some mink and rats in the background. Nice. I kind of got away from it when I got more into bowhunting, but my brother has trapped every year since we were kids. Sometimes he gets over 200 coons a season. Nice stash of yellar staves! Enjoy!

From: Bjrogg
Date: 16-Nov-19

Thanks Jeff, we grow some huge coons around here and the woods ones are beautiful if they don't have rub. I usually trap them in the dead of winter. They aren't out as much but when they are their hungry and their fur is prime. The fox I like to hunt. I like stalking them. A old timer I hunt with calls me the fox whisper. He can't believe how close I get to them. I told him I'm going to stalk my next one with my selfbow. He told me if I get one with it he'd take me and the lady out for a steak dinner. I'm really glad to see them make a comeback. The coyotes were really hard on them for probably a decade. Still can't trap one without the coyotes tearing them apart. I love fur and handling it. I tan everything I get now. Even buy some stuff from my old fur buyers. Fur has been ridiculously cheap. Wish the price of coon would go up so a few more people would trap them.

Bjrogg

PS I do really like your work bench

From: Jeff Durnell Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

I hear ya. I used to squeak them in with my mouth when I was bowhunting, just making a simple kissing sound (mouse-like). They'd come running from a hundred yards away. Thought they were gonna jump right onto my lap sometimes. Called in both reds and greys that way. As close as I've had them, I just never decided to shoot one for whatever reason. Usually I didn't have a furtaker license when it happened anyway.

My brother tans a lot of his furs too. Possums, skunks, coyotes, mink, all of em. I found a family of beavers in an isolated pond recently. He's got beaver traps. Maybe we'll go after them when the season comes in. I could use a beaver fur... and they're yummy.

From: Bjrogg
Date: 16-Nov-19

Yup I just couldn't shoot one when they were struggling with the coyotes. Now they actually are getting High enough numbers that mange stars to be a problem. I'm not a huge treat to their numbers but I usually take about 2 or 5 a year. They are my favorite animals to watch. Simply beautiful in every way. They seem to have moved in closer to The humans around here. I think their less afraid of humans than coyotes. I've seen them sunning themselves right on people's lawns. Not in the city. I'm talking farmsteads. I like hunting red fox best, but I like shooting coyotes best if you know what I mean. I don't mind getting out foxed. It's still always fun just meeting up with them.

THE OTHER CORNER OF MY SHOP WITH A PLAGUE MY SON MADE ME.

From: Bjrogg
Date: 16-Nov-19

Oh and I agree with the beaver. Better than venison

Bjrogg

From: Jeff Durnell Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

Yep, my favorite animals to watch too.

Quick fox story... I was stillhunting one October evening about 15 years ago, found a lot of fresh deer sign where they were eating wild grapes and cherries, with some briar/wild rose ground cover. Near the edge of the woodlot, where woods turned to a very overgrown field, I spotted a cherry tree where part of the trunk split down from a Y, but didn't break off all the way. Still attached to the trunk. It was mostly horizontal right next to the main trunk and offered a flat place to stand and watch the area. Sort of a naturally made tree stand. I shinnied up there and stood, 7 or 8' off the ground perhaps. Once I got up there I found, what looked to be, raccoon poop there where I wanted to stand. You know how coon poop looks when they're eating grapes and cherries. I didn't think anything more of it until dusk when a beautiful grey fox came in silently, stood right at the base of the tree I was in and looked right up at me. Must have been his poop.

He was like, "Hey dude, you're in my stand!" He looked down the trunk, and then back up at me. I thought maybe he was going to join me. That would have been exciting. He probably sat there every night. I swear he was shakin' his head when he turned and walked away. Lol

By the way, there's 3 old osage fence rows right there in that little patch of woods. It's in a state park though and they won't let me cut any... I asked.

From: Bjrogg
Date: 16-Nov-19

I'm surprised he didn't kick you out of his tree. They just don't seem to be afraid of anything. Don't see them as much. They seem to like the thick stuff around here and don't seem to have a very large range. If you find their range and call at night some very interesting action. Especially if you are the one doing the calling.
