Well really not over! Still have a doe tag. I just received permission to hunt an 80 acre farm just down the road. I have not be able to get out and scout due to work, so I headed out today to do a little "observing" over a corn field. I decided to walk a fence line and found a crossing that lead into the corn field. I was able to clear out a spot in the brush about 8 yards from the crossing. About 30 minutes before dark. A small 6 pointer walked up to the fence. After about 5 minutes he jumped the fence and immediately another small 6 pointer that I had not seen, followed. As the deer walked into the field, they kept looking back. I then noticed a nice buck standing at the fence. After a few minutes he followed and jumped the fence. Instead of walking the same path as the other bucks, he headed straight to me. At 6 steps, I realized it was now or never and "I realize that most hunters do not like frontal shots", but at 6 steps it was a chip shot. At the release the hit dead center just above the brisket. The buck only ran about 30 yards and piled up. What an exciting evening. This is why I love hunting from the ground. He a nice 10 pointer. Tomorrow I will add a picture of the rack and a picture of the entry wound. The broad headed lodged in the ham.
