Does anybody in Michigan offer selfbow building classes. I’m not talking about like a one shot seminar like KZoo. I mean someone I can go to that will work one on one to teach and build a selfbow at their shop.

Thanks,

Look up Matt Wirwicki. I know he teaches bow building classes. I'm not sure what part of the state he lives in.

Pearl Drums is a very talented Bowyer. I don't think he teaches any classes. I don't know if Gary Davis still teaches bow building. Every time I've seen him the last 2 years he's been holding hands with his girlfriend and wearing Florida clothes.

Matt Wirwicki teaches bow building at the Tennessee Classic every year. He sells bow blanks also.

All 3 of them are very knowledgeable and accomplished bow builders. I can get you their contact information if you need it. Send me a private message if you want.

Matt lives in Perry and Gary isn't doing it anymore. I'm not even sure Matt is doing it, I can ask him if he is interested? I may have sent you a PM, I was typing one and my computer took control :). Not sure it sent. Long story short. They taught you how to finish tiller a bow essentially. It didn't take long and was very affordable, but very beneficial. To start at ground level with a bark on stave and end up with a finished bow requires a lot of time. Not only are you learning how to build a bow, but you are also learning how to use several hand tools. That type of tutelage would be expensive.

Still kicking myself for not taking Gary up on his offer to make bows at his place when he was only 20 min. away. John
