Today was the opener in eastern 5C where I live. Morning was nice and cool, same as the past several days.I had set a stand a week ago in some thick cover and about 8AM I had a 5 pt walk in front of me at about 5 yds.

He walked past me to about 25 yds. and met up with a bigger buck. They started a bit of tine tickling and shoving each other around. While they were at it I pulled out my grunt tube and gave a short grunt, just loud enough for them to hear.

They kept up their sparring for another few minutes and then split up with the bigger buck coming over my way. He came straight in but then caught a whiff of something he didn't like and turned around and started walking away. I drew and shot as he was hard quartering away. He made it about 40 yds. and died on the path in.

Bow was one of my 50 style curves, about 43# at my draw, GT 600 carbon with a Bear greenie 2 blade.

Anyone else have early success? Post em up here if you do.

What was cool about this buck was his antler bases. Over 5" in curcumference, and all the way down near the pedicel was about 7 1/2" around.

Here ya go Brad. This is the Muzzy. Similar to the Zwickey.

From: Dale in Pa.
Date: 23-Sep-19

Shick, I like to get em early.Around here there is so much pressure that they get a whole lot harder to kill after the first week. I've killed an awful lot in the first week of the season including mw biggest.

Todd, yup couldn't ask for much more out of 43#. I don't know if you notices in the pic but the broadhead is poking out the front of the chest.

Rod, good to hear from you. Thanks all, and good hunting to you.

I was blessed to take this 7 pointer. 7 yard shot went less than 50 yards and went down in sight.

Was using a 60” zipper longbow 48 pounds with a 175 grain Grizzly broadhead total arrow weight 485 grains. Complete penetration but not pass thru.
