Nimrod, for me it's the B riser with #3 limbs. I think the longer the bow pretty much the smoother the draw, but there has to be other things that affect it because the smoothest drawing bow I ever had or felt was only 62". The combo above, B with #3's will make a 64" bow. If you just want long and smooth then you could go with a C riser which is even longer. As you add length you also loose weight. The B with #3 limbs is very popular combo with these risers.

I have a 31” draw. I’ve bern told I need a “B” riser and #3 limbs. Are the new ones built as well as the older bows? I’m really getting itchy to get one of these. I’ve never even shot a recurve. All the bows shown look amazing.

"Are the new ones built as well as the older bows?"
This is a very good question...if you are talking about quality of materials and ability to last as long as possible, I would have to go with the new ones. I believe the resins and laminates are better and more advanced today than they ever have been. "Built as well" can be subjective...no real serious Bear collector would ever fess up to the possibility that any other bow could possibly be "built as well" as a Grayling. I don't know if it's true, but I keep hearing that the new bows are made on the old Grayling forms and fixtures. If you are talking about "workmanship" I have to say that there is little to zero difference. I have been very happy with all the Gainesville bows I own. Zero quality issues with any of mine and the time I did contact the current folks at Bear they were beyond fantastic. The next guy will post what junk they are. Bows.....some people are in love with Black Widow takedowns...they make me vomit.

Chain, I draw 30” and prefer the A riser with #3 limbs making a 60” bow. The B riser with #3 limbs at 64” is a smooth shooter but for hunting my favorite is the 60” combo with the A riser.

My combo is a phenolic/Bubinga B handle with #3 Gainsville limbs. It's whisper quiet and smooth. My other is an A mag with #3 Grayling limbs. Different feel...but still smooth. I really like the stability that the phenolic/Bubinga handle provides.

Great looking Bears all!! Some of you have quite the collections. Mine is a target bow (C riser with #35 limbs and sight) came with the carry case. Sometimes I think I want to get rid of it since I don't really shoot it. Any thoughts on value? Hope this isn't breaking any site rules but looks like we have some TD experts here.

Proud new owner of a Bear A Riser! Found a slightly used one in about mint condition for a deal I could not refuse. Love how the grip feels in my hand. As far as grip goes on the handle this is my favorite Bear yet. Will probably try some #1 limbs first and maybe pick up some #3s down the road. Finally part of the club!

It shoots, too! This is from 70 yards. The limbs on these bows are among the best I've ever shot.
To answer the question, what's the smoothest set up: I did draw force curves on A with #1, A with #3, B with #1 and B with #3. While A with #3 gained less weight per inch than the others, leading some to say it's a very smooth set up, by far the smoothest is B with #3. Actually soft. The weight gain per inch goes down near the end of a 28-29" draw.
These were all done with equal weight LES bows. I don't know if the same would apply to vintage or other modern takedowns.
