Quick question about serving size for gold tip nocks. I have a 14 strand string on my longbow and I'm not sure what the serving size is but every string that I get made is always too small for my gold tip nocks to fit properly and I end up having to build up the serving with dental floss. My question is with 14 strand string which size serving do I need to make a good fit for my gold tip nocks? Thanks, BH

If you are using B55 I would suggest .018, if you are using dvna 91 or similar I'd try .021 or larger depending on the string type. Best way is to have a few sizes of serving and as you wrap the serving, try a nock on for size then change serving size as needed.

Depends on what nock you're using. Can't say till we know the nock.

Gold Tip nocks, 14 strands D97, I use .026 braided serving.

Thanks Tom! And Steve I'm not positive of the material but I know it's FF string. I didn't make the string.

Gold Tip uses different sizes on their arrows. Hunter XTuse a different size then the Pierce or the Classics or the Valkery. I'm not stupid and make dozens on Gold Tip arrows a day for byte local archery shop. Pierce shafts use a very small nock compared to the bigger diameter Hunter XT's. What fits great on the Pierce shafts would be sloppy on the bigger nocks.

Holcomb9 I only ask because there is a large difference in the dia of different materials - up to 60+% difference. So 14 of one could be 20 of another. I use 5 different materials but could not begin to guess on what you would need without knowing which one.

Or, just build it up with a wrap of string material at nock point.

I use either 16 strand BCY X and .024 serving or 16 strand 8125G with .021 serving. Gold Tip nocks. 14 strands of said material I don’t know cuz my strings are thin enough. Material size matters. If your nock is a little loose just switch out to Easton Super Uni nocks. They fit tighter and hold up better anyway. Gold Tip nocks loose smoother but they always crack at the base of the throat and get loose. Place your nock on the bare string and lay different sized serving materials in the gaps until you find the right size; not knowing what string material you have

just bite the nocks closed a little bit
