I traded for a pair of med. Hex 8 limbs and I need a 19" riser to stay within Border's reccom. for my draw length (29.25). I have heard that some IFL risers are not compatible with the Hex limbs. Other than Border or Morrison any recommendations for 19" risers? I am looking at White Feather risers?

My hex limbs did just fine on a WF-19 as well as a Satori (besides Border risers)

I have a 29 inch draw and Sid has me shooting a 21 inch Tempest with 8 mediums. I'd send off an email before I bought a 19.
PM me if you don't have his address.

In your oh-so-tough situation I'd look hard at a 21" Morrison, either light or heavy depending on your preferences. Grip to suit.

I'd do like Todd suggested and contact Sid. He's a great guy and answers stuff on Facebook very fast.

Thanks for the reply's. I can use either metal or wood risers although I am partial to wood. All my bows are hunting bows so I like to have them as short as I can shoot well. I like the limbs with the big hooks because even with a longer riser the overall length of the bow is less than my regular recurves. And I can't afford Border or Morrison risers unless I find a used one. I will email Sid, but I was reluctant to bother him since I wasn't buying anything. I don't do facebook. Mike

Lots of good wood ILF risers. Some of the limb pockets can be tight, depending on who makes each. A bit of light sanding along the edges will resolve that. Try a topic search on Tradtalk or ArcheryTalk (Traditional bows) for "wood ILF riser" The only wood ILF risers I ever shot were TradTech. Once in a while I see a Morrison or Border show up. One of the sites had a 21" Covert Hunter ILF riser listed.

There are some very-low-price risers available on e-bay lately. All made in China but probably of 'acceptable' quality. (We're talking well under $200.)
I hate to say it but these may push the better-made 'domestic' risers into a hole. I'm thinking I should buy the one I really want while I still can...

Not sure what "acceptable" quality is Dana, but China and Korea do very well with their stuff in Olympic competition. Samick has been making recurve bows, riser and limbs since the 1970's, back when American companies turned away from recurves nearly 100%. I think they may make pretty darn good products but you just have to make sure of what you're buying.

George, buying 'sight unseen' direct from China, for $130 or so, I wouldn't expect 'top shelf' quality. I'd be happy if the finish was ok and the limbs fit. Fine points like balance and zero flex might be too much to hope for.

Interesting, I thought any ILF handle would work with any limbs that had ILF hardware.

They *should* but manufacturers around the world 'interpreting' the original specs, plus manufacturing tolerances, means that sometimes it's a bit tight.

I think is more about the preload - aka angle of the limb pads - than ILF fitting not matching.

I have had problems with fitment. The issue is some ilf limb detent fittings are shorter than others. I keep cartel fantom ilf fittings around at all times. $3/ea from alternative archery. These have worked on every riser ive had, and every pair of limbs i have/had sported these.

You can get almost the same overall length with more conventional static tips.

Dave, that is an interesting observation on the over-all length of strung bows. I have a couple of Ballistik recurves which are THE static limb recurves in my opinion and a 17" ILF riser with long Hex 7 limbs. I strung them all and measured their strung length. A 62" AMO Ballistik is 59.5" long, a 55" AMO Ballistik is 52.75" long and the 62"AMO bow with Hex 7 limbs is 54.25" long. Still quite a bit of difference between the static recurves and the super limbed recurves. Mike
