Alas I have no video to put on Youtube, no photographs to post on social media and no shooting companion to corroborate that, ... yesterday shooting perfectly matched Baltic pine arrows from John Catley from my 55lb Bickersraffe Italian Yew ELB I shot a York round, of ....

135 hits ...

23 Golds ...

And a score of 693 .... my best ever

The York is a demanding round. Nicely done.

That's impressive. I'd be lucky to have any hits for the 100 yd end, let alone gold! Nice going!

Very nice shooting Phil.

Ah, life beyond 50 yards. Your story stirs my blood.

Congratulations on an excellent round.

Very impressive, expecially considering you did it with an ELB. The U.S. record for Modern Longbow is 135 hits, 1673 score. For the traditional longbow, (which your ELB would be) is 99 hits, 1107 score.

Congratulations Phil! I’d be lucky to see a target at that distance let alone hit it.

For those of you wondering what a York Round is: 72 arrows at 100 yards, 48 arrows at 80 yards and 24 arrows at 60 yards. Let that sink in a bit. So a total of 144 arrows for one round. In the 1904 Olympics....when everyone pretty much shot English Longbow, there was a double York Round, which meant 288 arrows. Will Thompson took the Bronze Medal that year. George Bryant took Gold, and Robert Williams took Silver. Only 4 points separated Gold from Bronze.

That is very interesting

Floxter ... are they scores for a double York rounds?

From: larryhatfield
Date: 16-Aug-19

Yes, the scores posted make no sense. 135 hits with a 1673 score would mean an average of 12.39 points per hit.

You can't score 1107 with only 99 hits ... the maximum score you can achieve with 99 hits is 891

Those are the records posted on the USA Archery website

From: Floxter
Date: 16-Aug-19

Since I posted earlier this morning, the website has changed and no longer contains any scores other than the number of hits. They have revised the hits count to show 99 is the record for Traditional Longbow and a new count of 133 for Modern Longbow. I cant explain the the difference. Those counts are for a single York Round. They do not shoot a double.

Dang impressive.

Phil, did you rest the bow at all during the shoot? I recall that was something the old folks did...even between ends.

Congratulations!

Great shooting, Phil! Odd nobody mentioned the weight bow you were shooting! A single York with 55# is quite a slog!!!

George, I unstrung my bow for about 15 minutes while I enjoyed a cup of tea and a slice of Victoria sponge cake after 100 yards

From: Jinkster

Congratulations Phil!

I have no idea what's involved in a York Round but I might imagine it makes an American/900rd look like chip shots.

That target looks pretty small at 100 yards...and after 6 dozen arrows, I would likey need something other than just tea and sponge cake for resusatation; especially knowing I still had t6 dozen more arrows to shoot. ;)

A 900 Round or American Round are not near the task. Longest shot is 60 yards, and only 30 arrows per distance. I've shot many of those.

Phil, good shooing congrats. I bet your bow gave a sigh of relief after unstringing.

Congrats Phil well done.

Up until about 1968 the U.S. men's championship consisted of 2 American round and 2 York rounds.

Nice shooting. I bet you had a great time.

I think shooting 900 rounds is great practice & (to me) a lot of fun.

By the time you reach the final 30 arrows the 40 yard target seems like it's very close.
