1964 or 65

My wife has a Locksley Puma with linear cracks that same way. I make sure she is shooting a heavy-ish arrow and so far everything has been well. I believe we have had the bow for a few years not (maybe 3) without any issues. That is a very nice looking bow and hope you get LOTS of enjoyment out of it.

definitely a 1964 and a fine specimen at that!!! I wouldn't worry about the stress lines...looks just like one I restored a while back...they restore wonderfully if you feel froggy

Great looking bow Craig. Just recently acquired a 68 tiger wood 56" grizz that I really like. But your wood out shines mine for sure. Hope yours shoots as good for you as mine does for me.

Something about the old Bears that just grabs us. I've had a dozen or so and they're gone but last week my 1965 Kodiak showed up. I had to dress it up some and today will be putting the strike plate and shelf leather on.

You are Right....that Zebrawood is Crazy Beautiful. The only Grizzly I owned was an actual 1954 with the small bear decal and narrow limbs - the grip was built up with wood and leather wrapped. That sucker was 71# !!! I put an arrow clean through an empty 55 gallon steel drum with it. Traded it off.

I love the grip on that one - just a Classy Old Bear - Sweet!!! Maybe this winter you can tackle those stress lines if they bother you but lots of guys as mentioned have and shoot bows with them. Anyhow - Congrats on your Grizz!

Nice bow. Beautiful riser.

It has to be a 64 because the other years of that design were 65 through 67 and all those had the year as first digit in the serial number. My buddy Dick Fuller has one he bought new the year he graduated...same year I did...1964. Those years are my favorite Grizzly models...hands-down.

Yep 1964 like was discussed before. 1964 Grizzlies had brass standing bear coins. Yours has a aluminum coin, but stranger things have happened with Bear bows. Fred Bear never wasted anything so if he had a few aluminum coins around they properly got used. 1964 was also the first year for the 58"amo Grizzly. That African Zebrawood riser is beautiful.

My buddy Shandor can hide those stress cracks pretty well using stain pens. I don't know if he has been on here much lately, but he posts almost daily on the Traditional Bear Archery group on Facebook. Quite often, he will show examples of how well the stain pens hide the stress cracks.

I have a Bear Polar with wood just like that and perfect white glass. It is a daily shooter. A Tiger Cat with the same wood and nice brown glass. A Polar that I thought was much newer with a combination Zebra and some other wood. It has the metal plate in the site window with a brush rest. The white glass is way worse than yours. Go figure ???? >>>>-----> Ken

I have a LH one like that. A friend found it and a RH Kodiak Hunter at a yard sale and bought them both. Since he couldn't shoot the lefty he sold it to me for what he paid for it, $5.

It was factory camo when I got it, but was pleasantly surprised when I stripped the paint of. I crowned the shelf, slimmed the tips and checkered the grip and refinished in a flat finish. Very nice bow with slimmer reinforced tips unlike the later Grizzlies.
