Many of you have competed in past years Leatherwall Labor Day Shoot-out. This post is a reminder that this years event is not far off. Here is the "Major Award" that will be mailed to this years top shooter. I will post this years rules soon. There might be some slight changes this year.

From: Sipsey River
Date: 06-Aug-19

Labor Day Tournament 2019. Well, it is almost time again for the Leatherwall Tournament. In order to keep the scoring simple, here are the rules for this year. Target: This year your target should have a diameter of 10”. Draw a center circle with a 4” diameter and another circle with a 7” in diameter. See diagram in below post. Scoring will be 5 points for an arrow inside or touching the 4” line, 3 points for an arrow inside or touching the 7” line, and 2 points for arrows inside or touching the 10” (outside) line. We will shoot 20 arrows total, so a perfect score will be 100. As in the past events, you can practice as much as you desire, but once you decide to begin scoring, there can be no more practice arrows. You must shoot and score the 20 arrows at that time, no delays, 20 consecutive shots. Distance of shots, 20 yards again this year. The tie breaker will be the number of arrows in the 4” (center) ring. When you post your scores here, include the score and number of arrows in the 4” ring. While there will be only one winner, everyone shoots in the same class, it will be interesting to see the difference in scores between longbows and recurves so add “recurve” or “longbow” along with your score. Example post, “Score 88, 9 in center, recurve” Traditional bows only, no sights, no stabilizers, no mechanical releases, everything else ok. This is a “honor” event so you are on your own not to cheat, photos are ok but are NOT be required. Arrows must be shot and scores posted here on Leatherwall on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday of Labor Day Weekend. If more than one person have a tie score and the same number inside the center ring, then an attritional 20 arrows will be shot by the tying shooters. As in the past year, this year’s winner will be responsible for next year’s event including providing the trophy or award. After you shoot for score on Labor Day Weekend, post your scores here. Who is in?

I plan to shoot this as I have every year so far. However, I will be out of town that week end, so I will shoot early or late and my score won't count - not that I would be a contender.

From: Sipsey River
Date: 10-Aug-19

Lowcountry........go ahead and shoot following the rules described, turn in your score as close to Labor Day Weekend as you can, but not after the weekend. We will count it.

From: MnM

Can we add a 2” solid bullseye?

I ‘m in either way.

From: Sipsey River

I used a 4" to make it more simple this year.

Don't forget, the trophy is sitting here waiting for this year's winner.

Getting my practice in, and I like the 4" bullseye. I've got to clean up some flyers, but shooting cold, my first 20 arrows of the night scored in the low 80's. First five arrow photo attached.

I see no reason why some of you shooters won't be able to post perfect 100's!

I'm flying out of town next Thursday morning, so Wednesday evening is probably out for me as well. I will post my official score (with photo "evidence") Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday evening.

Thanks, Sipsey River.

From: Sipsey River
Date: 25-Aug-19

You can begin posting your scores this Saturday Aug 31. All scores must be in by 3Pm on Monday Sept 2. In the event of a tie score, those with that score will have a shoot off which will be one arrow shot from 25 yds using the same target and same scoring. If there is a second tie, another arrow will be shot from 25 yds again. This will be repeated until there is a winner. The tie breakers will be shot at the earliest convenience of those tied shooters, hopefully on Monday. But being a holiday, if a person can't shoot then, they will be given a day or two to get back on the range for their shot. One more point, everyone can post their score here for all to see, or if you have concerns someone might see your score and post a score a few points higher (cheating), you can send me a PM with your score. I will post the private scores at 3Pm on Monday. Have fun, begin Saturday.

This is my first year doing this. I don’t have 20 of the same arrows. Can I shoot the same 5 arrows at a time in 4 rapid intervals, as long as there isn’t a rest period in between?

From: Sipsey River
Date: 30-Aug-19

Yes, you can even shoot one at a time, take as many breaks as you want, but once you start, no more practice shots.

Have fun, starts tomorrow, don't shoot the neighbor's dog or cat! But if the neighbor is a radical liberal you can shoot them!

Just being funny, take no offense.

64 and 5 for me.

Bear Super K one piece, #50@28, POC shafts. I started thinking about Frisky and what if he posts a score that beats mine, so I suffered a little TP! Lol

Also, I gave my HH longbow a whirl, but since I have not shot it in a while and in honor of Howard Hill, I will keep my score berween me and the dog.

Thanks for another fun Labor Day shoot.

I shot this am using a 9" paper plate. I scored a 63 shooting 2 arrows at a time. The last 5 arrows were horrible so I should have done better. Let's see more scores. Can we just use a 300 round target next year?

I haven't been able to get in shooting, the last few days, or I'd easily win this competition.

I shot a 54. I thought I would do better. If I had better vision I'm sure I would have done better!

I asked my wife the other day when she was going shopping to pick me up a compass to draw the circles on the target. She said she went to 3 stores before she could find one. She was told the kids no longer use them in school because they are a shape pointy object.

From: Draven
Date: 02-Sep-19

Today I checked my target size and to my surprise it was not as I had on the screen. Target was printed on 11x17 vertical and the printer shrank it. Based on this I talked with John and DQ myself since I did not complied with the rules. Sorry for the mistake - next time I will verify. Congratulation to everybody!

Great shooting and sportsmanship. I no-showed, spent the day "shooting" framing nails on top a ladder while putting a roof on a garage. Just as well...my average from the last 2 years was 56.

From: Nemophilist
Date: 02-Sep-19

Sipsey River,

I'd appreciate it if you gave the trophy to Draven. I feel he won even though there was a minor size mistake on his target. I applaud his honesty. I had fun shooting the Labor Day Shoot Out and will be looking forward to next year. And to all the guys who participated Great Shooting guys.

From: Fletch
Date: 02-Sep-19

If Draven's target was reduced, that means he shot the highest score, on a tougher target.

No need to accept his DQ. I applaud his stand up position to let people know there was a target issue, but it was not in his favor. "Higher degree of difficulty" and higher score. Well done.

From: Lowcountry
Date: 02-Sep-19

LOL - nobody wants to "win" this thing!

I say give it to Draven - if I read it correctly, he said his target printed out smaller than it was supposed to. That makes it harder - give him the "major award"!

From: Fletch
Date: 02-Sep-19

Since Draven shot on a smaller target, give him a smaller trophy. That will even things out.
