I have shot Judos for many many years and have always loved them. They are about the best roving point I can think of. I did recently have two Judos that just did not hold up at all. Anyone else have any recent quality issues with Judos? In particuliar the spring arms not lasting. I'm thinking and hoping this may have just been coincidence.

Nope. Were they actually Zwickey Judo points? I destroy the knock offs in pretty short order.

While I really like Zwickey heads, in particular the Delta, I am not a big fan of Judo points. I've also broken several spring arms. I switched to Hex Heads for my stumping and small game points instead and haven't looked back.

fdp....the real deal. Not a knock off. I was using the tapered ferrel glue ons. Same issue as shown above with one of them and completly lost the arms and springs on the second head.

They're a good head, and almost indestructible. Almost. I don't mind if one breaks now and then.
BTW, they're made to not get lost in grass. Shooting them into stumps, particularly hard stumps, is what usually breaks the spring arms. I use the judos for shooting at clumps and other stuff in grass, forest litter, etc., and hex heads for stumps.

Muzzy makes one similar and seems to be pretty tough. I have broken a few Judo's in the same manor but have literally shot thousands of shots. I am liking the muzzy but haven't shot near as many.

I agree, not made to be shot into hard objects, but what a blessing in tall grass. Can't lose them, well very difficult I should say.

Sounds like it's Vegans that love judos. Spend lots of time shooting at clumps of grass etc. Whaterver happened to meat eaters?

These muzzy's are 3 pieces. The chisel point screws on like on a broadhead. I really like them so far.

I've broken the spring arms off of 3 tapered judos in the last 6 mos. Don't remember having this problem in past years.

Those spring arms have been the weak link forever. I must have gone through more than two doz. over the years. I'll never buy another after coming up with a cheap effective alternative that can be made in any weight you desire.

I had a picture, but apparently not on this new computer, but basically take a field point or blunt and drill two holes thru it 90* apart the exact size needed for a friction fit of weed wacker line. Make sure to use .095 or thicker line. Cut two pieces of line about 1 1/4" and push them thru and you're done. It may take a little experimentation to find the right size drill depending on the brand of weed wacker line you have. A friend who I stump with uses a 3/32" drill. That's a little small for the line I have, I use a # 36 or 37 drill to get a snug fit. The beauty is you can start with any weight head and you can easily replace the line when it breaks or gets beat up.

Is the line stiff enough to flip the arrow up in grass and such? Sounds like a really great idea!

Riverwolf said it best. Hard to top words of wisdom like that.
The collar in front of the spring arms on the muzzy's that I posted above seem to somewhat protect the spring arms. Like I said above though I haven't shot these thousands of times like I have the Judo's but I have shot them hundreds. They seem pretty tough. They are a bit pricey though and the idea posted above with the weedeater line sounds like a good one to me. Also a wing nut turned backwards between the shaft and a field point works well as does a fender washer. A lot of good options and I will be trying the weedeater line head soon. Thanks for the idea.

I have some Zwickeys for years. Have one in particular with a bent front when I hit a rock square on. Like fdp said I have had some knockoffs that were destroyed by even a glancing blow off a rock. Where I hunt, you just about cannot avoid hitting a rock of some kind.

I've made serviceable roving heads from 8/32 truss head machine screws, tee nuts and flat washers or sealing washers. I believe that I got the idea from a post here on the Leatherwall some years ago. I'm sorry but I don't have a picture.

I tried that hole drilled through the point quite a few years ago
did not work out too well
the 2 zip ties I used would just shear off when hitting a stump
maybe the weed eater line tougher did not try that

I’ve never had a complaint with REAL Judos.
But then, I don’t expect them to last indefinitely. Only the rocks live forever.

Been using the 135 glu on Judo with a 125 grain broadhead adapter and they have been deadly and tough.

If you use them for what they were intended they should last longer than you.
I think I only ever had one spring arm break off. That was after several years of roving. I shot that three armed Judo for probably ten more years until I did something stupid like trying to pick a chipmunk off a rock.
